This year they are simply focusing on the temporary 300 price point. There are BF deals on games so people can just buy those separately and choose what they want. |
The bundle they sold last year was very limited. This probably cost them BF, not price differance, but I think at the time Sony were selling as many PS4's they could manufacture. This year they seem to be in a better position and will probably be better prepared to sell higher volunes than last year

Yes but that was part of the problem. It was limited because it was specific to BF and BF only; they had regular ps4s..throughout November and everything, but at 400 with no game. I think what happened was that, not knowing about MS's fire sale, they thought the normal SKU would do better outside BF than it did. So the stock/supply for that whole period was mismanaged. This time this problem is solved by having NDC as a basic bundle. Easier to manage supplies, and they can shift deals and price according to their needs without even having to strike deals with other parties beforehand. Basically, last year they would've had to have good deals (outside of BF) on the game less SKU in order to make up for the "unpredicted" price competition from MS's deals. On short notice, they could have only done that in two ways.. Buying bulk copies of games without a proper deal in place with a third party, or greatly slash the price of the SKU (there were some deals like that but in very limited quantities). Both very costly solutions, so they didn't care enough to do them.
