Forums - Gaming - DLC Is Here To Stay - EA Makes More Than 2X More Money From DLC Than From Full Digital Games

I wouldn't say DLC is a bad thing. It's a great idea that helps keep a game going long after its release. Though it can easily be turned into a bad thing, as we have seen before in the past. I buy some dlc, only if I'm interested and the price is reasonable enough.

Well f*ck!

DLC isn't inherently evil. Look at the Dark Souls 1, 2, and Witcher 3 expansions. They're quality additional content. I don't blame companies for milking the cows when it comes to skins or unlocks. If the DLC doesn't impact in game progression then i'm alright.

"As you may have noticed, during the past few months we’ve not shared any stories regarding DLCs (unless of course we’re talking about free extra content). You see, we believe this is the cancer of gaming, which is why we took the decision to stop covering such stories."

What an awful website. Deciding what news the customer should get based their own prejudices? Ugh. I don't like that at all. I'll know to avoid that website in the future.

As for DLC, it's almost certainly the reason we pay less for full games than we ever have before so I'm pretty pleased with it. I have no problem letting the rich kids who want to buy all the DLC subsidize more games for me while I pick and chose only the very best offerings.

Not surprising in the slightest really. I'm sorry, I'm not going to drop £59.99 down for FIFA/Need for Speed etc digitally, when I can walk into my local game shop day of release and get it for £39.99...

Yeah but these DLCs are announed after the game was released not before. Bloodbornes DLC for example was announeced just recentley, that should tell you they actually worked on it and not just removed content from the game to resell it you later. With EA or Warner Brothers games i dont have the feel.

DLC is necessary to offset used game sales and steep discounts like steam and 75% lower msrp within a year.

considering how many more games ea sells physically than digitally I'm surprised the difference between their sales of dlc aren't even greater compared to digital games

Of course they do! DLC is stupidly overpriced and people still gobble it up.

Like many are saying, DLC isnt evil by nature. It actually can be a very good thing if well done.Look at the Mario Kart 8 and The Witcher 3 DLCs, they are great examples, giving excellent content for a reasonable price, but the base game being also completed.

But yeah, DLC in general are badly handed, specially with companies like EA.Star Wars Battlefront is a good example. They are charging 50 dollars, almost a full game! For the season pass, and we dont know what the hell it is!Its an absurd.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
