Forums - General - Android Lollipop phone - in need of some help

I finally bought me a new phone and now I need some help in personalising it. I have had Android devices before, but I haven't had the need to personalise them.

I managed to change my general ringtone to this, that I've already had for a decade:

But I still would need to change my SMS ringtone, email tone and have specific ringtones for few peoole. How do I do that?

Assuming it is similar to stock android I use... to change the text alert go into settings from the messaging app (the standard android one is a green speech bubble, if you have a different SMS app it will have it's own settings)

Individual ringtones can be set from the people app (or whatever contacts app you use)

I don't use email, but my bet is whichever app you get emails pushed to will have a setting for the notification sound.

I'd remember HTC would be the closest to stock Android, most manufacturers use their own interface. I have LG.

Now I found how to change my SMS tone, but I could only choose from the LG preinstalled ones. I need to play MP3 file from my memory card.

E: Ok, so it seems the contacts need to be imported from the SIM-card to the phone memory, and after importing, you can set the ringtone. But can you set video as a ringtone? I've had a certain video as a ringtone for my wife on various phones since 2008 or 2009 and I'd like keep using it.

I'd just play around with the settings in the app for the task you require, if there isn't an option for what you want then you will probably have to download a replacement app that can.
Regarding playing from MP3, you can always just transfer the MP3 file into the appropriate directory on your phone and it should appear within the list of tones. (connect your phone to a PC by USB and you can explore the file system), not sure if this would work for video (MP4?)... if you just want the music from said video you could rip from the video file and create an MP3, if you mean the video actually plays on your screen when your wife rings then I would guess that requires an app.
