Amusing considering amiibo get a lot more hate than Skylanders, Disney Infinity or Lego Dimensions. And amiibo don't even lock large amounts of gameplay sections behind the figurines, unlike the competitors. You don't even need to buy expensive portals (why do these companies even release these portals on the Wii U? It's not needed!).

Not bad, but not record braking either.

Amiibo:
21 million in first 15 months
Cost: $13/figure

Skylanders:
100 million in 15 months
175 million in 28 months
240 million in 40 months (average of 6 million/month)
Cost: $10-$15/figure

Amiibo don't have a game built around them and they only work for Nintendo consoles. Do people still buy Skylanders? I heard sales were terrible for Superchargers except for Nintendo systems (because of the Amiibo Skylanders ironically enough).

Well amiibos are used with the WiiU so the average WiiU owner has two, not sure why it doesn't make sense. It's a comment on the attach rate right?

Though do any 3ds games use amiibo's? I'm not sure :|

From memory so far its Super Smash for the 3DS. 

But i do know that a One Piece game and Fire Emblem Fates/if did have one but so far its only out in Japan.
