Now that Shenmue 3 has generated consumer interest in the brand again, Sega is looking at re-releasing the older games.

The recent revival of Shenmue 3, through itshighly-successful Kickstarter campaign, has convinced Sega the Shenmue brand could generate profit once again.

“Yes, we want to innovate and back smarthphones and virtual reality but our key purpose is to go back to what the brand used to stand for,” Sega Europe’s marketing director Jon Rooke told Marketing Week.

“I think the buzz around Shenmue 3 shows that people love our legacy,” he added, confirming to the site that Sega is indeed looking at ways to re-release the dormant franchise.

“Over the next few years, we want to use engaging content and marketing to remind the public why they fell in love with Sega in the first place.”

Shenmue 3 is still a ways off, so it’s a good thing Sega is looking into a remaster now in order to have something ready around the third instalment’s launch, or perhaps before.

I believe that this was fake news.

Holy crap man... don't get me excited. Nothing would make me happier than SEGA reclaiming its former glory.

Don't play with people's feelings. You better pull through.

And hint... Shining force 3 complete on the 3DS. For yesterday please.

Well, after all the attention Shenmue 3 has gotten, there is no way Sega wouldn't at least think about a re-release of Shenmue 1 and 2.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

If this is true, then YES!!!!Never enjoyed a Shenmue game, and this could be the solution for me.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Why wouldn't they try to cash in on this? They could probably just license it to Sony and let them do all the work.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Wouldn't be surprised, as they can make money on the Shenmue 3 hype, as well as bring awareness to the Shenmue series

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

I'm surprised it took Sega that much time to announce this. After the reveal that Shenmue 3 was and the hype it generated, launching the first two games was a no brainer.

Besides, there's a whole population (a generation, perhaps) of gamers that have only known Shenmue for the constant "make Shenmue 3" comments, without having the chance to play the first two and understand why it was so important. Those are a lot of potential buyers...

But with Sega being in the mix, who knows what kind of product will they bring: a simple port of the old games to the new consoles/PC, an HD edition with upscaled visuals and little elso or a complete remake?

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I will play the living hell out of these game if they do make them in HD. I already place the ones I have like crazy. :D

Just some simple ports that add widescreen and speed up loading would be fine. Its Japanese games, nobody expects them to look or play well.
