Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox Live Banning Modded Consoles

I'm surprised they didn't do it sooner.  I noticed people playing Crackdown on Live at least a week or so before the game came out in stores.  I wonder how many thousands of consoles will be banned?

Edit: Here's Major Nelson of Xbox Live fame making it official: http://majornelson.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!FAB4B8088A70F52!590.entry

You can play import games but most often it's installed/used to play pirated games.

i think it is for free access for games, and for hacking. lol that means that here in argentina the 360 isnt going to be online. everyone has his consoles chipped lol

It also depends on what modchip you get, as some install a new BIOS but leave the original intact. Therefore, you can boot into the modded BIOS to play games offline, but boot into the original BIOS to play games online.

@ your mother: lol i didnt know that. the only console i chipped is the ps1. my gcn was never chipped. so i dont know the differences between new BIOS chiping or the original BIOS chipping.
