I would argue that Gears of War sold more consoles than Halo 3, though many of those purchasers may have been aware that H3 was impending. I would also argue that Lair was the most hyped game for the PS3, but that soon switched to being Killzone 2. To this day, the defining game of the PS3 remains the unreleased FFXIII.

360: Halo 3/Gears of War
PS3: Lair, Killzone 2/Final Fantasy XIII
Wii: Super Smash Brothers Brawl/Super Mario Galaxy

Riot Of The Blood on 19 March 2008

Nintendo Wii: Zelda: TP. You guys remember the E3 lines and stuff? It even sold on the freakin' GamCube!

Playstation 3: Metal Gear Solid 4. The games quality is looking great. Everything is set up for it to be the first generation-defining game this gen.

Xbox 360: Gears Of War. This game had everyone thinking the PS3's a failure, and that the 360 is more powerful. It was like god touched the 360 when this game came out.

PS3: At this very moment, nothing. Perhaps GT5 once it is released.

PSP: GTA Liberty City Stories

Make up your mind. First you ask about the most hyped game, and then the one that will be remembered as the best. Totally different things. =P

Wii: Galaxy or Brawl

PS3: MGS4 or FF13

Ehhh Halo 3 ... It is not a bad game. It is a good game actually, but ... sorry Halo - Bioshock, Mass effect, CoD 4 are better.
Metal Gear Solid 4 ... what to say about it. I think MGS 4 will be the PS3 Halo3.
I finished MGS2 many years ago. I don't like it, so I never try MGS3. Most of my friends try MGS2 or MGS3 and they don't like them too.
