Forums - Gaming - Fallout 4: PS4 Version Performance Will Please Fans, PC Will Have Other Data Than The Installer

As we get all the more closer to the release of Fallout 4, it appears that Bethesda is making sure people understand just how good the game is going to look and feel when they get their hands on it. When it comes to a bit of housecleaning, Pete Hines was working overtime on Twitter making people knew that on the PS4, the game is going to have a solid 30 FPS and even added that he thinks people will be pleased.

When it comes to the PC version, he said there will indeed be a game disc, if people want to go that route. He further clarified that there will be other data on this disc besides the installer. He was also asked why the the game was put on a DVD copy as opposed to a Blu-Ray disc but he said the disc simply didn’t have enough of an install base to warrant that move.

Hines wasn’t just having conversations about what kind of info is going to be on the game disc though. He was also asked about why the company set the release date in November, as opposed to a date like October 23. Hines responded they set the date they did because they wanted to give the development team as much time as possible to have it finished. That of course, means there will likely be a decent amount of content added with the inevitable launch day patch. Fallout 4 gets it’s official release on the PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 10, 2015.

I have absolutely no faith in anything Bethesda says about performance. Their games run like shit.

Eh, I've never had performance issues with Skyrim that weren't of my own making on PC and the 360 version ran smooth.  PS3 now....

I'll be the judge of that.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

the 360 versions of Oblivion and Skyrim ran great. Fallout 3 as well.

I'm very confident that PS4 version looks and performs GREAT, can't wait !!!

"The PC version comes on a DVD containing other data." What does that mean. So how much would I need to download still. I'll get it on ps4 anyway, no resale value on a PC disk.

"so then, whats the purpose of releasing a DVD? seems like a complete waste of manufacturing discs and packaging"

@mfer2110 I can't speak to the purchasing decisions of the entire PC gaming community. Some folks like a box. Or less downloading. Or....

Or some people like no downloading, instant play, and actually owning the game. Probably won't happen anyway, what are the chances Fallout 4 won't have a huge day 1 patch...

There is absolutely no way all of Fallout 4 will fit on a single DVD. I'm guessing they probably split it up, and the DVD contains a compressed version of most of the assets, while the rest is probably downloaded via an installer that may be the "other data". They're spot on with the pretty tiny market for physical PC games though.

I mean, New Vegas is about 10GB. No way is Fallout 4 going to magically be less than that, or be able to be completely compressed down to fitting on a DVD.

That will be a first. Bethesda games run like shit on the PS3. Considering that, I'm confident that the PS4 version will run smooth. The main problem of the Bethesda games on the PS3 was the hardware limitations of the console (especially RAM).
