Forums - Nintendo - Major Splatoon Update Tuesday 9pm EST! Buffs and Nerfs and Fixes, Oh My!

Was gonna post all of it here, but decided to take the easy way out and just link yal to the PDF that has most of the major changes. The site is wierd to navigate though so I'll copy paste what it says here shortly after this thread goes up. Anywho link to the big adjustments are below, and below that are my elaborations and/or thoughts on each of them.

-=MAIN WEAPONS=-

Splattershot - Still a 3 hit kill, but now it only takes a single defense up main to make it a 4hko when it required two before. The Tentatek version is really gonna have to consider using damage ups now, but the regular is mostly unaffected since it should be using damage ups anyway. Combined with the Inkzooka nerf and Bomb Rush buff, the vanilla Splattershot looks really good now compared to the Tentatek, but of course it's still more strict with it's loadouts thus Tentatek will still be more popular.

N-ZAP - Didn't really need it, but it'll take the movement buff gladly.

Splash-O-Matic - Never understood why this weapon dealt less damage than the N-ZAP considering it also has less range, but they're fixing that now. Now it takes 3 defense up mains to make it a 5hko instead of just one. The vanilla version also gets it's special improved a bit while the Neo's is nerfed so there's that.

Splattershot Pro - A pure buff for the vanilla that it'll gladly take, but for the Forge it simply does not make up for the Point Sensor and Inkzooka nerfs.

Dual Squelcher - Gotta go fast!

Jet Squelcher - Thanks for that amazing 6% ink efficiency buff guys, totally makes up for the Splash Wall and Kraken nerfs, no lie no sarcasm.

L-3 Nozzlenose - Enhanced ink spread thus faster special building because the Nozzle D isn't the Kraken weapon we were trying to hit.

H-3 Nozzlenose - Well, atleast now it has one advantage over the L-3.

Luna Blaster/Blaster/Range Blaster - Only direct hits can kill now, so damage ups are pretty well useless since they'll always 2hko anyway if you can't get the direct. Frees up ability space atleast. Luna and Custom Range are especially hurting since their specials were also hit, but I fully expect there to still be plenty of Blasters around as their gameplan really hasn't changed, one shot kills aren't as easy anymore is all.

Rapid Blaster - Less squid form delay and less end lag are definitely good, but certainly not enough to really help these weapons unfortunately. Those same changes apply to Bomb Rush, and since they didn't specify which I'll just assume all for now.

Splat Roller/Carbon Roller - Bad enough that the Inkzooka n Kraken were hit, but in addition to that the edges of their hitboxes no longer one shot kills. Not really that big of a deal though, just gotta be a bit more accurate is all.  Still being able to insta kill people despite having no ink never made sense so good that's gone. Not entirely sure what they mean by balancing the damage from repeated swings though.

Dynamo Roller - Same nerfs as the smaller Rollers, only in addition to that there's a slight delay before it's ink starts recharging after swinging, hindering it's already not so great ink efficiency. That's certainly not the end of the world though, so yeah Rollers will still be everywhere.

Ink Brush - There's really no help for this weapon huh.

E-Liter 3k - Damage is now the same as a Splat Charger, so it can no longer ohko without fully charging, unless you use damage ups of course. The long charge time which was supposed to be this weapon's downside is now actually it's downside. The Splat Charger certainly looks good compared to it now with it's significantly faster charge time and the vanilla's buffed Bomb Rush.

Bamboozler 14 MK II - You are not the Splash Wall abuser we are looking for.

Mini Splatling - Getting it closer to a regular Tentatek.

Heavy Splatling - Collateral damage victim.

Slosher/Tri-Slosher - Why not.

-=SUB WEAPONS=-

Point Sensor - Increase in it's AoE is nice I guess, but reducing how long the tag last is worse. Really unnecessary nerf there.

Splash Wall - To try and promote less cowardly play from Gal users. Faster to die and longer delay in ink refilling means it'll be harder to spam these one after another. Still very good, just easier to deal with.

-=SPECIAL WEAPONS=-

Inkzooka - Still too OP, gotta nerf it again. Almost a full second delay between shots is rough, but not too major.

Kraken - I'm surprised they didn't increase the points required the first time. You also better make sure you're in a safe spot when it ends since you'll be completely defenseless for almost a second, so not a completely "get out of jail free" card anymore. Also they made it easier to hit, but again, overall not too major of a nerf.

-=RANKED BATTLE=-

Erm wait, has special charge automatically filling up outside of Tenacity always been a thing? I find it hard to believe that I wouldn't have noticed, so I'm just gonna assume that's completely new lel. Very interesting addition here for sure, will certainly encourage teams to pursue the objective even if only for that faster special charge. This may lead to much special weapon spam though, but we'll see.

Map changes? you mean the ones with the rainmaker glitch?

My main got a hit... T_T I can't attack right after my kraken attack ends. That was so useful for me when I wasn't able to kill at the end of my kraken assault, but I tend to run away when things go wrong as a Kraken, so I guess I can adapt to the change. Cool to see you made the thread : D

Ah well. I still will use the same weapons and just improve and never notice the differences in the end. Jokes on you Nintendo!

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

NNID: Slarvax - Steam: Slarvax - Friend Code:  SW 7885-0552-5988

None of my weapons got hit except for the the abilities on the .96 Gal Deco

I was expecting the Kraken to be nerfed again, but with the delay out of form, that is actually life or death :/
Don't use the splashwall much, but it got nerfed again.

Blasters and Rollers though..

Hammerhead Bridge is on there but they weren't very specific. I'd imagine it'll be removed, it certainly better be!

I´m really happy for the dynamo roller, splash walls (now players can try other sub weapons) and kraken (let´s face it this special weapon is just a panic button) nerfs. Blasters I´m not sure, now they require more skill to use so that´s good but I don´t feel a nerf was needed.

Yes. Happy with the tracking effect being toned downed. That was really annoying for me.

What's wrong with the ink brush?

Almost everything lolz. Bad ttk, bad range, bad subs n specials for it, and it's completely outclassed by the Octobrush.
