Let's put this into perspective. As a person with Indigenous heritage, Columbus day was the day that European bigotry came to our lands. This wasn't a new land. It was already inhabited and they just came to exploit all of our resources. With that said, do I hate Europeans today? Of course not. In fact, as a Mexican residing in the U.S. this country has to learn a lot more about European countries when it comes to being more advance with regards to citizens rights and they are far more tolerant than even minorities in the U.S. However, no one should be celebrating that Columbus came. This is a day of mourning because it killed a life style, traditions, religion, languages. Celebrating Columbus Day is the equivalent of having a Memorial Day in honor of Adolf Hitler. Would you ceelbrate that?
And just for kicks, Kirk had it all right.
