Forums - General - Obama's Speech or Supreme Court on Gun Rights...which is more important?

The other interesting thing on gun rights is Bush and Cheney have different ideas about this...

Bush is ok with states having some regulation of hand guns and other weapons (he was a governor of Texas after all)

Cheney takes the approach that everyone has a right to guns because of the constitution.  Period.  No gun regulation.

As for Obama's speech, its one of the best speeches I've heard on racism in the USA, and I think it speaks to Obama's abilities as a leader and his earlier internal conflicts that he was able to address the issue so clearly.

There is something to be said for having a president truly comfortable with White, Black, Asian, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu people because of how the person was raised.

You do realize that his speach was brought about by revelations that his mentor for the past 20 years is an anti-american, white person hating, idiot.  Obama himself was raised in a muslim school in Indonesia.(age 6-10) and has been a member of this anti america/anti white church for 20 years.  Hes a total phony.  He doesnt relate to white, Jewish, Buddhist or Hindu people, HE HATES THEM. Why does a woman move from Kansas to Indonesia?  To brainwash your child with muslim lunacy in his most vulnerable years.  but leave enough time to join a "Christian" church for 20 years(eerily a church that, just like his school in indonesia, preaches HATE AMERICA), long enough to dispell doubts that he is a muslim.  none of this is a coincedence,  this has been planned out for a LONG time.

You dont spend 20 years in that church without sharing some of the beliefs that minister regularly spews out.  Ask yourself this,

on the gun laws- if you the supreme court rules that only "well regulated militas" may own firearms, whats to stop the NRA from starting a militia?  then why was David Coresh's compound raided in Waco?  Whats to stop me from starting a well regulated milita?

Since Washington DC banned all handguns, crime has gone UP every year but 1.  Bans on guns dont work as good in reality as they do in people's ideal dreamland.

Nothing WoW, but I bet you over 2 people would end up dead.

Precisely TheSource. Bush was far more liberal than McCain is, and in no way adhered to the ideals of the Republican party. Some people defend people just because they say they are part of one party, rather than actually following the ideals of that party. That annoys me more than anything.

I heard of this small town. The mayor ran on one thing: Guns. He promised to GIVE a gun and lessons to every resident of his town. WAIT! The funny part is coming still. After that happened crime essentially STOPPED! There were no criminals ballsy enough to take the off chance the person or home he was going to rob didn't have the gun with them.

Source?

Are you suggesting we give everyone a gun and lessons and all crime will stop?

What does a bank robber say when upon entering a bank with the intent to rob it when all 40 people in the bank pull out handguns in unison?

Statistically odds are that at least one of those people drawing that gun will either shoot himself or one of the other innocent bystanders, while the criminal would remain unharmed.  Yay?

Not gonna get into the ridiculous "Obama's a terrorist" stuff, but on the gun control issues:

I would much prefer an NRA organized militia to the current situation.  The NRA is a relatively responsible group of individuals that advocates training and caution before the use of firearms of any kind, so no, I wouldn't mind that at all.

Second, well over 50% of the gun related crimes in Washington DC since it's gun control laws were contraband weapons from the surrounding states.   Gun control only really works if everyone does it....

Supreme Court on gun rights is more important.

And I know there has to be some people out there saying guns are bad or the 2nd amendment is outdated. But if people are saying this then they obviously have no understanding of why the 2nd amendment is in place.

So I'll explain why. The right to bear arms is in the Bill of Rights because if the people didn't have guns then they would have no protection from a corrupt or evil government. This is the major reason why the 2nd amendment is in place. Without people's rights to guns, there would have been on America, as a lot of the Revolutionary War was fought by militia. This is why we have the 2nd amendment and this is why I support it. Don't let the government keep taking away your rights and liberties for what they deem as national protection or personal security. Protect your rights and protect your freedom.

That would make for a really awkward scene.

I found the link. this is it: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55288 and 25 years after the passing of that law, there are no murders in that small town.

you are retarded if you think guns should be banned. I live in florida and carry a concealed weapon all day everyday.it is a fact that around 2 million violent crimes are stopped each year due to law abiding citizens carrying concealed weapons. Our govt is just looking to take more of our rights away and enslave us. I cant remeber who said the quote" the only way to enslave a people is to disarm them" but its true.
So you people are saying i shouldnt be allowed my gun so when some retard criminal breaks into my house with a gun i cant shoot him or when im eating at wendys and some retard starts shooting i cant defend my family and kill that person like what happened recently in florida, no one was carrying in that wendys and if they were less people wouldve been shot. Believe me i agree with gun control laws to keep guns out of criminal hands but not those who are trying to defend themselves!!!

Obama went to a Muslim school in Indonesia, but it wasn't a Madrassa which is where supporters of radical Islam go to learn/teach.  Its like saying all Catholics are a threat to little boys because they are learning from pedophile priests.

If your going to bring up this type of thing, you have to acknowledge that Ron Paul had support from KKK members,  and by your argument association with disagreeable people makes him a threat to all non-Whites/Christians.  You can do this for every candidate...Bush has close ties to the Saudi royalty even though some of the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, etc, etc.  Each candiate brings complicating factors and a lot of baggage.
