Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony more open-minded about Physical Media than Nintendo and Microsoft?

Nintendo gives indie devs something they can actually profit off: amiibo.

Well that's also a good examples from Nintendo, but bad argument from you because we are discusing a topic about Physical Media.  I hope you can create a new thread out side this thread

"Physical media refers to the physical materials that are used to transmit information in data communications."

Amiibo technically qualifies.

I am sorry if maybe i am not qualified enough to answer this, but i will ask you, can i play Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo Wii U without Amiibo?

And you do know that opens the doors to a lot a hate and again, going to the fuck Nintendo route. Which is the points people are saying is very stupid in this choice as of now.

It's not going to open any significant amount of hate. Not enough for Nintendo to care. Like I said, almost no one is going to see the NX, see a bunch of exclusive games they want, see powerful hardware, see good third party support, and overall see a system they love in every other way, only to actively boycott it only because it doesn't have physical media. You and everyone else here are massively overestimating the amount of consumers that are so passionate about playing games physically that they would give up on games they want to play on that reason alone. Most people will be indifferent enough on the issue to see an all digital platorm with a few games they like and say "I'll get over it" wrather than never playing Pokemon ever again merely because they can't touch the cartridge anymore.

Every gen I buy a shitload of Nintendo games. Probably 80-140 of them (At Aus rip off prices). If they go all digital then I will be saying good bye. Most i will never play, just looks cool on my shelf. If they take that away from me then I have no reason to buy.

Trust me, steam sales hurt developers a lot more than physical used game sales.

I support digital. Mainly because Steam is the best service for gamers out there and used games sales do nothing but hurt devs and there are a massive amount of cheapskates out there that will wait for the game to be $20 or less at gamestop before buying.

I know this is an old post, but can I just say how much I agree with Marie Antoinette here?

I'm so sick of people saying they can't afford to drop $500 on a new console and $60-$70 for each game (even more if they're European!). What are they, poor? Can't they just get free money from the Bank of Dad like the rest of us do? imo, if you have to wait for discounts or buy things second-hand, you're not a good enough person to play video games. Go play ball in a cup like a Mexican.

People not paying full launch price for everything - which is totally a new thing and certainly hasn't been around for the entire history of gaming - are literally killing the industry. The gaming industry makes barely any profits at all; it's dying just so that it can have a business model where peasants can afford to play. That's wrong.

Then I assume you buy all name brand material at full price. Your shoes, clothing, toys, cars, houses, apartments, insurrence, and food. And never wait for sales. Or buy store brand versions. I assume you avoid Amazon.com. Since they discount the MSRP at the start. Gaming is not isolated from capitalism.

And I would say that 99% of consumers in any market, not just gaming, are absolutlely nothing like you. Most people don't buy games because "it looks good on theif shelf."

Hard to say when 3rd parties don't seem very open-minded about physical media on Nintendo hardware, or really have much of any consideration at all.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Okay, to spemanig. Yes. Digital only would reduce sales massively. Quite a large portion of the console market have absolutely terrible internet and require discs to even play games. I have a 150 gig internet cap per month. Just having the patches for the games pushes me close to the limit.

On a good day, my internet connection is about 8mb/s down. My friend in Australia manages about 1. Forty gig game downloads would kill a lot of our ability to game.

In a market where Steam can have a massive 125m+ active users world wide through a digital only gaming platform, no it won't. Sorry that your internet is the way it is, and I hope that Nintendo makes accomidations for you, but those accomidations will definitely not be physical game media.
