I have actually signed up for a slizone account regarding the mobo specs(I'd link it but the forum is undergoing an update), unfortunately nobody so far has given me a definative answer but I was advised to use nvidia's specs as a good basis for my decision. Nvidia lists the 750i as only having 1 x16 PCIe port but an experienced member of the forum told me that no current GPU even takes full adavntage of a x8 port so x16x16 shouldn't figure too heavily in my decision.

To summarize I'm still very much on the fence. You mention SLI being quite problematic, is that because you're messing with the setting & tweaking things or is that the case even when just wanting to run them on default settings? I ask because this is my first system build and I don't want to make it too arduous a project!

@ Mafoo

I see what you're saying though I don't expect to get the 2nd 9600 for a while, like a year or so, at which point it should be bargain basement prices so I won't have the dilemma of parting with $$$$s.

EDIT: Oh, and sqrl, I imagine that most houes don't have that much wiring, pretty insane setup;)

EDIT2: the slizone forum is back up, here's the thread if you are interested.

I asked two friends to seperately look over the mobo and give their opinions and both had the same conclusion. Its x16/x8, I'm not saying thats conclusive but both are experienced PC builders and at this point I would advise you to pick another mobo just to make sure if for no other reason.

As for SLI being problematic some of it is my dual monitor setup and SLI not supporting it. So when I want dual monitor I have to turn off SLI and when I want to play games I have to reboot to turn SLI back on (they claim they fixed this with the latest drivers but its not so!). Beyond that you need to deal with cooling and make sure the cards are operating at safe temps, I've set up a bunch of temperature triggered fan events so that if my cards break a temperature threshold it ramps up their fan speeds to help keep them cool (rivaTuner is great for this and there are walkthroughs to help you).

PS - That wiring is nothing you should see my central wiring point in the basement...its kind of crazy, routerS, a server, telephone bricks, TV rebroadcasters, etc...We've had cable guys and telephone guys come out and tell us they aren't qualified to work on it ..seriously.

@ sqrl

Do you agree with the poster in the sli forum that current cards don't need a x16 port, i.e. if the asus mobo does only run 16x8x is it really a problem?

EDIT: Decided to have a look on newegg's user comments and unless hordes of posters are involved in a plot to make me buy the wrong mobo it seems the Asus 750i is indeed 2x16x capable. It was limited to 2x8x until recently when a new bios version was released.

Anyway think that's my last PC dilemma solved so thanks for all your help!
