I think they are just saying it in light of the fact that all consoles get price cuts regularly until they are discontinued.

Cheaper Price = more console sales.
Lower the price more to compete with PS3 for the mediocrity title. Both XBox 360 and PS3 are getting pwned by Nintendo. Nintendo has not even needed to reduce the price of the Nintendo Wii, in fact the Wii is under priced and struggles to meet up with world wide demand.
They should cut the price more if they want any shot of competing with PS3 in EU. GT5:P is just around the corner.
Price cut attracts people like fresh hot grilled steaks.
