This will make the game powerful in the Western Market, but will not do much for the Ps3 in Japan

75% for the special edition? Well looks to me like it will be mainly the "hardcore" crowd purchasing the game. Reminds me of the % of people who picked up the Idol Master - Live For You on the 360. Pretty much all special editions, which pretty much only the hardcore crowd buys. Casuals don't usually buy special edition versions of games... |
I don't know how you can compare MGS to the Idol Master . The MGS series are much more well-known and popular among Japanese gamers. And I have to say that poll results on Sinobi don't accurately reflect the opinions of Japanese gamers because only the "hardcore" gamers visit that site.

If that is accurate, and MGS4 sells around 800k in software like its predecessors, the hardware boost will be around 200k for the PS3 in Japan. Nice for a single game, but nothing which would save the console in the Japanese market.

200k would be a HUGE boost for the PS3. But your right in saying that even if it shifts that many consoles the PS3's regional position won't shift much. That fact should scare Sony.

When the big RPG games that are comming, arrive(white knight and final fantasy,...)They don't need to be worried about japan asmuch but right now japan is not looking so good for them.
OT:that PS3 looks sweeet.but i kinda like my shiny black colossus more. XD

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
MGO Starter Pack comes with 6 maps? Where did you hear about this? I've seen nothing about the Starter Pack when it comes to details - especially on the differences between what's included with MGS4 and the full MGO purchase.

I don't know that WKS will move that many consoles. It certainly looks above average, but not perfect. In any case, it's a new IP, and there is always a limit to how many consoles a new IP can shift.
With every week the Wii slams the PS3 in sales, the potential boost FFXIII can give the PS3 gets smaller and smaller. Japan has always picked one console per generation, and the vast majority of gamers will only buy one console. If too many FF fans get sucked into buying a Wii before FF hits in 2009, the PS3 will be in major trouble.

Metal Gear games have never cost more than 7000 yen and have still never sold 1 million copies in Japan. This will significantly hurt sales of MGS4 in the land of the rising sun. Don't expect a blockbuster over there. |
It'll sell over a million in Europe and probably the U.S. It won't sell as many copies as Halo 3 or even GT5, that's for sure.

In Japan, most people who are buying the Wii aren't gamers. Majority of gamers are still on PS2.
