If that is accurate, and MGS4 sells around 800k in software like its predecessors, the hardware boost will be around 200k for the PS3 in Japan. Nice for a single game, but nothing which would save the console in the Japanese market.

 

200k would be a HUGE boost for the PS3. But your right in saying that even if it shifts that many consoles the PS3's regional position won't shift much. That fact should scare Sony.

When the big RPG games that are comming, arrive(white knight and final fantasy,...)They don't need to be worried about japan asmuch but right now japan is not looking so good for them.

I don't know that WKS will move that many consoles.  It certainly looks above average, but not perfect.  In any case, it's a new IP, and there is always a limit to how many consoles a new IP can shift.

With every week the Wii slams the PS3 in sales, the potential boost FFXIII can give the PS3 gets smaller and smaller.  Japan has always picked one console per generation, and the vast majority of gamers will only buy one console.  If too many FF fans get sucked into buying a Wii before FF hits in 2009, the PS3 will be in major trouble.
