Forums - Sony - Japanese MGS4 pricing revealed (all 3 versions)

By the way this is still a pretty big deal...

The only games that cost 8800 Yen in the past were Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Metal Gear games have never cost more than 7000 yen and have still never sold 1 million copies in Japan. This will significantly hurt sales of MGS4 in the land of the rising sun. Don't expect a blockbuster over there.

I seriously don't think this will effect sales much.  I think the kind of people that are going to buy Metal Gear Solid would buy it anyway.  Of course we have no idea what it'll sell, so I'll never be able to prove what I just said.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

taxman maybe I should preorder and lock in the 59.99 price lol

Dude......that game costs 90$ if my internet currency exchanger is correct.

Huh?! I'm pretty sure special edition in our beloved country will cost 299 PLN -> $133,5... DMC4 SE is a bit cheaper - 249 PLN -> $111

C'mon Wojtas nothing strange here. You pay almost $80 for Wii games... you shouldn't be surprised with this pricing

I know that it will cost an arm and a leg here in Poland (maybe a nut as well) but i didn't think that prices would be so high in Japan. That's the only thing that i was actually surprised about.

Then again, it got me thinking whether this might be the first PS3 game to cost over 70$ in the US? Expect low sales for MGS4 on the PS3. At least in Japan.

EDIT: Just checked out Gameplay internet shop and found MGS4 being sold for 40 quid w/o shipping. With the current exchange rate between pln and gbp the game would cost 180 pln. Great deal for the gamers in Poland, Metal Gear is bound to be priced over 250 pln in your average electronic shop.

The people who will buy MGS4 at launch won't care what the price is.

I doubt this will hurt launch sales, but those legs are gonna disappear. Assuming it would have legs in Japan anyway.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

That is a damn fine colour, and in fact looks better than the black (I thought the white PS3 was ugly and the silver is boring by the way)

Due to the obsessiveness of Japan's MGS4 fanbase and their general enthusiasm for new colours that bundle will sell well.

Well the MGS fanbase in Japan isn't very large since none of the previous games sold over 1 million. Did you see the sales after the last new color (Silver), sales were and still are terrible.

Anyway, did you see this from the IGN article posted above:

"We currently don't have specifics on the internals of the hardware bundle's PS3 unit. Looking at the price, the package costs about 3,000 yen more than the cost of a 40 gigabyte PS3 and the MGS4 Special Edition, so we're wondering if there's more to the package than meets the eye, especially considering that the latest PS3 hardware bundle for Yakuza 3 actually represented a price of a couple of thousand yen over purchasing the hardware separately from the game."

WTH? So you actually pay more to buy the bundle as opposed to the stuff separately? Aren't bundles usually at least the same price or cheaper or possibly come with extra non-bundle goodies...

Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

I hope, its complete BC with the  65nm process.
though If that was the case Sony would be hyping it up more.
I find it dumb to up the price just for a new color.

I am curious to see what is on that special edition Blu-Ray disc. The pricing is kind of gay by the way.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

You're going to offend a lot of people by your choice of adjectives akuma.
I would suggest changing it to something more appropriate.
Exercise your vocabulary.
