When do you buy a new console?

Day one for me 17 22.08%

I wait for a game that I really want 23 29.87%

I wait for a considerable... 30 38.96%

As soon as I am able to steal one 5 6.49%

I wait for someone to giv... 0 0%

I play on someone else's... 2 2.60%

Total:77

These last two generations (7th and 8th) I've waited at least a year after each respective console's release before picking one up. Got my Wii in the fall of '07 (mainly because it was just so damn hard to come by at the time), as well as my 360 during the holidays because of Halo 3 and COD 4. This gen I've held off on all 3 consoles so far (just not enough compelling games to make the jump into next gen prior to this holiday), and I'm glad I did as I await the big holiday lineups and Black Friday bundles. Plus there's always hardware updates / revisions with consoles these days, and most consoles receive a price drop within the first year or so on the market, so to me it doesn't make sense to pick up a new console for day 1 launch.

Prior to the 7th gen, I've gotten each Nintendo console within a month of launch from gens 4-6 (SNES, N64 and GC), and also got a PS2 after it came down in price and I got GTA Vice City for Xmas, so I kinda had to buy one at that point lol.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Around the Network

The PS4 was the first console I bought at launch since I was actually old enough to have a job. I love my PS4 and played it a ton. I definitely don't regret buying it at launch.

However, I know for sure that I'm not buying any of the consoles at launch next generation. After seeing how well the PS3/X360 have been supported with cross-gen games for the past two years, it makes complete sense to wait for some more must-have current gen only games (i.e. The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Batman, etc.) or special limited edition console bundles.

One thing I didn't mention: I got the Dreamcast and Xbox 360 roughly a year after they launched solely because I went to buy the competing PlayStation console of the day and couldn't find one. I just grabbed the competitor and a few games to "console" myself. Both times, it turned out pretty great--at least as far as gaming fun was concerned. Dreamcast announced it's end about a week after I bought it.

Always the software.

PS4 was for ISS though I preordered early because of the expected supply issues.
Wii U was for MK8
PS3 at launch for FFXII

Except for Vita. I just bought that for the lulz.
