Forums - Gaming - Sony does PS4/Vita combo games, why does Nintendo not currently do this?

Nintendo's always been weird about cross buy. I always hated having to rebuy Mario for $5 on every new Nintendo platform XD

the two consoles are too different, they'll try to do that with NX :v

It is possibly something they could look into with the NX, but at the moment Sony is doing it in an attempt to support to Vita but also guarantee sales on the PS4.

I think Nintendo wanted the 3DS and Wii U to be 2 different consoles and not a Wii U and a handheld Wii U.

Take your favorite hd console games on the go
VS
Make your low res portable game not portable and put on TV

I.e. It is easier to promote a handheld through a console, it is harder for a handheld to promote a console. This is why mobile games like angry birds aren't as big on console as they are on mobile

Mobile games are largely different play experiences to handheld games. They aren't the same. A game like Angry Birds isn't comparable to a game like ALBW.

That seems to be what they're going for with the NX, in a way. Also, they used to make add-ons for their home consoles that played handheld games, but they stopped with the Wii/DS.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

That's why they plan NX as a bridge between two world (mobile consoles, and Home consoles)

of course sales would fall. a lot of the reason to own a nintendo handheld in the first place is because games like pokemon are only available on it.

i think game selection rather than form factor is a more important role in the buying decision of a nintendo handheld, especially these days.

I would vehemently argue against that. Form factor is a huge reason why I own my 3DS. Like obviously the games are important, but I constantly find myself wishing I could play some console games on a portable platform. I especially had this issue with MGSV, where I couldn't get into it, but playing MGS3 on the 3DS during my breaks at work made it a much more consumable experience.

I don't see the problem, they already did this with the supernes/gameboy, and it was great.
