There's still games coming out for it, and it's making a decent profit. I give it two more years. After that, we'll see PS3 BC for the PS4.

Without using PSnow I really don't see this ever being a possibility. I could be wrong but hardware wise I don't think the ps4 has the power to locally emulate all of the innards of the PS3.

I wish Sony worked in a system where I put a ps3 game disc on ps4 and start streaming from psnow without me having to pay a subscription or buying again a game I already own. It would be just like having local BC.

Would be great if all systems could do that, if I could rest my Mario 3 cart from the NES on my Wii-U or 3ds and not have to buy it from the E-Shop, no cash in it for companies to do it tho so would be busy pumping their R&D funds into stuff which will give a return, MS is working on bringing more BC because they're currently fighting tooth and nail to win their xbox360 fans back onboard the X1, sadly Sony aren't in the same position so they're slightly complacant when it comes to giving fans what they want for free.

Sony Talks About PS3 LifeCycle After PS4 Launch: "It Won't Last Long As PS2 Did After PS3 Launch"

Personally, i hope Sony will ditch it as soon as possible. 2016 is a good time to do that. Leave the era of shame quickly behind and concentrate all the mass on the one plattform.

Ps2 had to continue because for some periods it was even outselling ps3! Ps4 being as successful as it is theres no need to keep last gen around for that long.

But I also think ps3 is something to be proud! It was the biggest comeback in gaming history! It was able to come from the bottom and rise till a great second spot.

I need to buy another one.

Exactly my thoughts. That's why they won't lower the price for the PS3. There is no need to. Sony rather wants the customer to buy the new plattform. For the one obvious reason that the consumer feels compelled to get a PSN+ subscribtion due to online gaming, thus pushing the in-advance revenue business model. And it seems to pay of. For the company and... for the players. (yes i said it)

Next year will be splendid. And there is more to come. TGS took me by surprise and two more events this year. Talks about the yet unknown bend project grow.

Another reason, is another plattform - so to say. PS4 is the soil on which Playstation VR will have to prosper. Not PS3.

It's going to be similar to the later PS3 models with the PS2 classics. I don't expect full BC, but we'll be able to buy and play PS3 games digitally.

My guess is early 2018.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

I still think they will release a PSThree and support the market for a little longer, maybe even up to 2020

What era of shame? Care to elaborate?
