Forums - Gaming - Why are people happy with game exclusives but not movie exclusives??

Ok, pretty much the same question as in the topic. Why is it that people are happy to buy and support game exclusives but most would complain if they had to do the same thing with Movies?.

My 2nd question.

Do ye guys think game exclusives will last?, or can ye see it going the way of movies as more and more casual gamers join??.

3rd question.

What do you think it would take to get people on board with a 1 standed platform system?.

For me i think it would take maybe one of the companys completly winning so large that they own the whole market and then are forced to open the platform so they wont have a monopoly on the market. Kinda like with the video player wars such as Betamax vs VHS and HD-DVD vs BluRay.

becaus thats just BS. "porting" a video is realy easy and can be done by 2 lazy persons in a day...

Because that doesn't actually happen. A movie is available on all devices somewhere, somehow. And we have more control of it ourselves. I can rip a DVD/BD to my iphone myself. I can't re code a game engine.

Except if the was "One Standed" gaming platform that every other console maker that wants a license has to follow then the would be no porting involved, it would just work.

Think of it like this. Lets say the PS4 dominates the console war this gen, and they gain a monopoly on the console market.

For nextgen Sony allows any company to license their PS5 tech and build a console using that set of specs. Get what im trying to say? this is what i mean by a one standed platform that all companys most follow so the games will work on any of the devices.

It won't work because unlike unlike VHS or DVD players consoles are often sold at loss.

1. That's just how the medium is at the moment. As for the why people get happy about exclusives, my is guess is that most people don't own multiple consoles because of personal preferences and/or money constraints. Therefore, exclusives help justify their purchase of one console over another.

2. Exclusives will last as long as consoles exist.

3. I think most people would be alright with a one console system, but the problem is Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo and would all have to agree to that system, which we all know they probably won't.

Also, what the fuck are movie exclusives?

This question shows some extreme ignorance about technology.

If similar technological limitations existed for movies, people would complain. And conversely, if such technological limitations didn't exist with gaming, people would complain.

I mean technically, you could.

A made-up, non-thing.  Is my best understanding of the situation.

The only "movie exclusive" thing I can think of is a movie not releasing on America/Europe/Japan for X reasons. And even those tend to finally cross frontiers, like Ex Machina, which took a while to release on America.

So yeah, I don't properly grasp OP's example here.
