Forums - Gaming - The witcher 3 development costs

quite high number if you consider that Poland is much cheaper to make games. MGS 5 had the same number and its made in Japan which has much higher living standard and is more expensive to make games, Bloodborne probably just cost 20 Million as well.

I dont see the big deal with it

Thanks for posting those numbers. Good numbers that will increase with the costs of the DLCs and the future sales.

Now I can't help but wonder how many of those $81 mil. went to the actual development of the game, and also how much of those $61 mil. in profit went to CD Projekt and how much to Bandai Namco.

Well, in the article they calculated the profits in Polish Zloty, so I would assume that is the money CDPR has got.  Also considering that $81 + $61 million makes $142 million, and the game at an average of $50 per game (just to stay a bit low) would have sold for $300 million, there are $158 million for Bandai, the retailers, Sony and MS.

And don't forget, there were at one time cross-gen versions of the game - so there's some cost and productivity lost on that as well.

You sure? I distinctly remember quite early on them saying that the previous gen couldn't handle this game.

I can see Poland and other developed countries with cost of living still reasonable attracting more and more the development of expensive AAA projects.
