Forums - General - Do you attend church weekly? Yearly?

Words Of Wisdom said:

I go to church for Christmas as a family tradition and the church does a lot of fun stuff around Christmas too so it's alright.

I don't show my appreciation for life by praying and giving thanks... I show my appreciation for life by getting out and enjoying it.

Besides, consider this.

1) The average lifespan in the U.S. is 78 or so.

2) The average amount of time spent at Church on a Sunday is about 3 hours (a fair assumption).

3) The number of weeks in a year is 52 (let's exclude all those extra days/weeks).

Even with all these assumptions, this means that the average person who goes to church weekly will spend about 507 days of their life in church; that's over a year and a half of your life in church.

4) The average lifespan in the U.S. in days is 28,470 (78 * 365).

If we divide average lifespan in days by the average days spent in church by a person, we get a number around 56.

Just consider that for a moment: For every 56~57 people who attend church weekly all their lives, the church has effectively killed one person.

Would you like to do the same study with videogames? I'm pretty sure people on these forums play more than 3 hours of Videogames per week.

I should do some kind of PS3 Sales/Death Rate kind of study

Nope. Though while I consider myself fairly religious i've never been one to trust groups. Churches seem like they were a flawed way to get the word of god out there, do to the fact that you had to put your faith not only in got but the head of your church who may or may not abuse his power. (See Crusades, racist priests, rapist priests etc.)

To me Church mostly seems out of date since the invention of the Printing Press.

You don't need a church to talk about your religon now that everyone has the tools to be as comfortable with whatever religion they choose.

I don't want to force this down anyone's throat, so please take this with a grain of salt. I would like everyone who says never or rarely to check out the link in my sig or the link the OP. You might be surprised or you might be confirmed in your distrust*. Just check it out if you are interested. What do you have to lose? Just a rhetorical question, no need for a response.

Nobody is perfect, so you have to leverage that into your thoughts about Church Leaders. Now if they do something horrid or lurid then they should step-down. People in these positions should be held to a higher standard.
