People on this site gotta stop using the word "iconic." They don't know what it means.

Can you explain yourself? What controller do you consider iconic?

Iconic means that it stands as an "icon" in the mind of the public.  It means that it's recognizeable by the largest amount of people across all demographics.  If we're talking about more current controllers, the Xbox 360 controller is the closest to what most people would recognize as a normal, generic controller.  Overall though, nothing will ever be more iconic than the NES controller.  On its own it can and does stand as a symbol of gaming itself.  The Dualshock is just a controller, and in fact, it's even a little weird looking compared to most others.  So I don't believe it's very iconic at all.

This discussion came up a few weeks ago when someone claimed that Sony was the most iconic overall, and that was also just plain wrong.  It doesn't matter who's selling the most--Nintendo will always be the most iconic because of the definition of the word itself.  Nintendo and Mario and Zelda and the like.  They're recognizeable by everyone.

While the NES controller is iconic, I'll have to consider the Dualshock controllers as iconic too. While the square, the triangle, the circle and the X are reasons by themselves, they have pioneered the modern controller with dual joysticks, bringing them to the mainstream and changing the way we play and the way games are made.
