Each generation we know almost exactly how the next Xbox and PlayStation controller will look and feel. Sure they may have some minor changes over their predecessors, but the controllers still tend to be very similar.

Nintendo doesn't follow this rule. Since the sixth generation they have gone from a conventional controller to a stick with buttons to a tablet/controller hybrid.

If next generation and the generations after that they decide to compete directly with Sony and Microsoft and hence produce a conventional console. Will this be a problem for Nintendo?

I don't think it's a problem. Only thing that really manners is that their controllers are comfortable and if for whatever reason they need to make a conventional controller then they could just use the Wii U Pro or Gamecube controllers as bases.

Sure, they do. It is so iconic that MS and Sony still use the core design of it

I think Nintendo since NX will start following the Pro Controller in the package of their consoles and will sell separately gimmik controllers for other games.

who am I kidding , they're gona put in the box with the console a sphere totally covered in touch screen 360°x360° that can be squeezed and grows in size every time you tap on it an Amiibo centralizing the gampaly of every single game on it. brace yourselves fools, "Mario future foreteller" is incoming 

Yes they do. The NES, SNES, N64 and Wii controllers are pretty iconic in the eyes of the public. Also, there are tons of people always claiming for a return of the GameCube controller. That has to have a reason.

It's not that Nintendo doesn't have an iconic controller, Nintendo simply changes it for another from gen to gen.

The problem with the Gamepad is that its advertisement overshadowed the console itself, so people thought it was its own individual thing when it wasn't.

They have iconic controllers in their own right, each gen has its own unique controller. I would just say for NX, design a Pro Controller+ that would be great, then have the WiiMote, GamePad and Gamecube controllers as alternate controllers.

I think they're pretty iconic, especially the N64 controller. Just because they change them with every new console doesn't mean they're not memorable, they're iconic in their own right.
