 Most of the shmup's on the VC are more obscure and rare than ActRaiser and Paper Mario. ActRaiser and Paper Mario aren't even semi-obscure or rare. Shmup's games is a severely underserved genre these days, and I'm glad these titles are getting another shot.

Call me a curmudgeon if you'd like, but I don't really care for that kind of game. They're basically arcade games, and have the exact same caveats as arcade games do (unreasonable difficulty combined with far too limited gameplay). I would much rather get a game with some depth for my $5 to $10 than a game that I'd probably play once for 30 minutes at most and then never touch again.
