Ashley Madison is a Canada-based online dating service and social networking service marketed to people who are married or in a committed relationship. Its slogan is "Life is short. Have an affair."

Basically Ashley Madison "is" a website that aims to facilitate an affair for married people.

They were hacked and tons of names from married people who have created accounts there have been exposed.

The website promised complete confidentiallity and that it would not save personal information for the people using their service.

ALM offered a paid option in which people who created a profile could have their account scrubbed from the Tinder-for-adulterers website if they coughed up $19. When the massive data dump of Ashley Madison lust-hunters surfaced, it was found that while information was indeed removed when accounts were deleted, some details remained in the site's databases – and were splashed all over the web by miscreants.

Exposed people include reality show personality, US State Attourney, and popular YouTuber among millions of others.

Some people have even committed suicide after being exposed in this hack.

So I ask you?

Do you think that hack was wrong? People using this service and the website are victims?

Do you think that this sort of service and cheating initiative by those who used this website should warrant this exposure / reveal and consequences should follow, so you are happy that it happened? Or do  you think this are two different things that have nothing to do with each other?

Do you think the ones to blame are the ones in charge of the website for poor protection of user confidentiality?

I don't pity them since they were stupid enough to put there personal info on a website that revolves around cheating and charges you to delete your personal info.

Though I am glad for divorce lawyers. This must be a wet dream for them.

-Hacks that reveal personal information are always bad in my opinion.
-Maybe you should have thought better than to put your personal info on a dating site that kind of focuses on cheating. (Yes I know the website didn't focused entirely on that, but it was advertise pretty heavily as that)

I find it disgusting and cheating is probably one of the worst things a person could do. im fortunate enough to never have experienced that, but for obvious reasons xD

Really? So using an online service and providing your personnal info is "stupid" now?

While I do not support cheating in general they are using a online service (like any other online services out there... I'm sure you are giving your personnal info to Sony or Microsoft while using Xbox Live/PSN or Netflix etc...) and there is nothing wrong into that (or stupid). And the website being about having an affair is in no way a valid reason to have their information being stolen by hackers.

Website and hackers are at fault (you miss this one...)
No matter what the website is about, being hacked and having our personal data being accessed from hackers is the only issue here. Those people who used the website to cheat are in no-way responsible for that.

Consider that I meant the hackers were wrong.

People cheating is pretty much a personal/private issue, except for those directly involved (and family/friends of course). But, doxxing is doxxing. And being ok with some of it, as long as it's an issue you feel strongly about (one way or another) is utter hypocrisy. Am I sticking up for anyone in particular? No. I'm talking about the illegal act that too many people seem psyched about, versus the act that actually isn't illegal (at least, it isn't here). An awful thing to do to someone you supposedly care about? Absolutely. Does it signify an inability to empathize with others? Absolutely. It's still not illegal.

The hacking of personal information is obviously wrong and the hackers should be punished. However, I personally don't feel any sympathy for those that were hacked.

First hack I can condone since that hacker group hacked that other hacker group for hacking.
