Forums - Gaming - Sony's Steinberg: We'll be marketing GTAIV as well.

Why are people discussing the cost of Xbox Live as if it were an important factor in a GTAIV debate? For all we know the online will be crap, but even if it's excellent it won't be what your average consumer buys the game and a console for.

MS would kick Sony's but with the online department anyway for those that ARE willing to pay the $50-60 or whatever it is in the USA.

DLC on the other hand won't cost that much (certainly not the ridiculous $50 I saw someone suggest) and it will actually enhance the gameplay that past fans of GTA are looking for!!

So you doubt online multi-player will be good, yet you are 100% certain the exclusive episodes are going to to be good, cheap and "enhance the gameplay"? Why? Because Microsoft tells you this or something?

We know we are getting more space and more missions.  How is that not enhancing the amount of gameplay?  I didn't say the DLC would be cheap, just that it wouldn't carry the ridiculous expense some fear-mongering fanboys are claiming it will.

I didn't say the online will be bad, I just said that it doesn't matter either way as GTA has NO legacy of online multiplayer.  Almost noone will by this game based on the online component.

Value is important too. You cut a consoles price when you're already the cheapest on the market it makes people wonder. If you have the better console why would cut price when you're already cheaper? These consoles arent equal in peoples eyes, the 360 is the new comer. People know Sony as a games company, not Microsoft.

With RRoD not being  fixed and the price drop people would see it as being desperate. It mattered much  more at $599 and $499. $399 isn't as outrageous so more people will be looking for value in the system than before. 360 price cut will definitely help, but some people aren't only looking at pricing anymore.

A PS3 price cut puts it in line with customers comfortable spending range. The 360 is already within that range and is still losing by 50,000 a week. For the 360 its more of a demand issue, because people dont see value in the system.

a) 360 was the cheapest on the market?  it was already cheaper than the wii?

b) microsoft is no longer a newcomer

c) the difference between 499-599 is MUCH LESS than the difference between 200-300

Bets:Missed by 420k I bet leo-j vg$500 that wii will sell 31 million by 7/31/08.  Sorry, I don't think he has enough vg$ to make it with all of u that wish you could. Hit, with room to spare I bet kingofwale a 1-week ban that wii Americas ltd sales>360 Americas ltd sales as of the numbers for week ending 7/05/08 (using vgchartz homepage #s)

Predictions:

Wii will sell 18-20mil by 12/31/07  CHECKWii will sell 45mil+ WW by 12/31/08Wii will surpass PS2 sales WW by 11/17/11 (5yr anniversary)Wii Fit will hit 12mil sales in 2009MKWii+SSBB+Wii Fit+SMG > 50 mil sales by 2010 > gta4+mgs+gt5+ff13+haze+lbp

bottom line: online is not as important to the masses as content, especially in a game that never had online before

more missions, bigger levels, etc >>>> more online modes to gta fans

Of the games which are online and provide addional missions and such, so far I would rank online multiplayer higher for such games I played. As you know there are endless reasons why the PS3 may well provide a better user experience. I won't list them all again, unless you really want me to. IMO the exclusive content is being hyped too much for something which is largely an unknown.

Question for those dismissing online play and Xbox Live talk here :

What if GTA has never been about online multiplayer before? Was GTA about Downloading extra episodes before ?

My point is: GTA4 has online play NOW, it's all that matters. You can't have "THE COMPLETE GTA4 EXPERIENCE" without it. And if you want THE COMPLETE GTA4 EXPERIENCE on a 360, you have to pay $50 for THE COMPLETE XBOX LIVE GOLD EXPERIENCE.

Exactly.  You can't say that DLC will be the end all, be all of GTAIV, then just dismiss online play like it doesn't matter.  ESPECIALLY on a console that's supposedly all about online play.

DLC will have just as much sway on potential coinsole puchasers as paying for online will, imo.

My prediction (for US sales only)

360 - 55%-60% of total GTA4 Sales.
PS3 - 40%-45% of total GTA4 Sales.

US Sales so far...
COD4 (360) - 3.6 mil (75%)
COD4 (PS3) - 1.2 mil (25%)

DMC4 (360) - 650,000 (60%)
DMC4 (PS3) - 410,000 (40%)

I am not sure why the make up would be different from games like COD4 and DMC4 in the US. COD4 was a FPS so it would make since that it sold more on the 360. DMC4 was an action adventure and the PS3 version faired better against the 360 version.  GTA4 will be a quality action adventure title, IMO PS3 will have a higher attach rate, but with the shear lead of 360s in the US the 360 will sell more copies.

Wouldn't be suprised if the PS3 gained a bigger boost hardware wise. Simple Europe is offically on the PS3's side and so is Japan (NOT THAT JAPAN MATTER THAT MUCH) but if current US trends continue with the PS3 outselling the 360 despite

- Higher Price
- Less Triple A titles
- Worse Online

It leaves me wondering what else can MS do. These "Supply Constraints" in my opinion is a way of Microsoft of saying, "we dont know whats happening, PS3 is just starting to take off.". Which also raises the question, do people who are going to buy GTA IV buy a 360 over a PS3, jus cause of price nd DLC (WHICH WE STILL DONT KNOW WTF IT IS, AFTER 2 YEAR). I say no, the average consumer isnt going to look at price alone.

E.G - A GUY WANTS A CAR, HE HAS £100,000. HE COULD BUY A FORD FOCUS OR A AUDI R8? OF COURSE THE R8, HE LOOKS AT THE OVERALL PACKAGE.

What is $100 dollars gonna matter, he has to Get Live to play multiplayer and GTA IV ($100) so there is a what a $50 dollar difference between a PS3 nd 360.

But MS may put the DLC stuff so only gold members can download it, like they have done in the past with stuff on XBL. This would then force people to pay $60 just to have the chance to buy the DLC which will be around 50-60 dollars..

You're confusing MS's policy towards game demos on Xbox Live with DLC.  Anyone with an Xbox Live account (gold and silver) can purchase DLC the moment it's released, game demos on the other hand silver members have to wait.
