Forums - Sony - Until Dawn Impressions thread.

I'm pretty suuuure Until Dawn will be a second rate campy horror game, but that first guy linked is an absolute joke. Just the way he's responding to criticism in all caps is hilarious.

Around the Network

i like the part where he recommends getting a remaster or a game(mad Max) that might suck even more instead.

OMG! an M Night Shayamalan reference in the video? That's really bad. And this guy somewhat liked The Order remember, so this is really bad for Until Dawn. I think it will end in the 50s on Metacritic. Really, they should have kept it as a Move game, at least throwing motion controls in there would make it something different, and it probably wouldn't have made it any worse.

I wasn't expecting this to really compete as a Holiday title, but I was expecting the game to at least be in the mix for people to think about.

Are you serious? I tend to see you as a sensible poster and not reactionary like this. Every single person who has played this game so far have said how great it is and how it's much deeper than people think. This guy only played 3 hours and doesn't understand tongue in cheek. He even mentions it without knowing. he states that some of the lines are gringeworthy and straight out of a 80s - 90s horror flick (which is what they're going for) and THEN goes on to say it takes itself too seriously. Can't you see the contradiction there?

From GAF:

Just finished, what a ride! Rolling credits now but I'll post more after I digest everything. Took me 7.5 hours and this included getting about 80% of the collectibles, thought they're not really out of the way so searching for them didn't really add any significant extra time to my playthrough. Game is dripping with atmosphere and tension. This is extremely well-written, acted, and produced. I'm also excited to do another playthrough because I want to see how the scenarios change depending on who you save. I had one character die literally at the end that almost made me quit the gane before it autosaved, but I let it go and I'll replay it to correct my mistakes!

Another one:

Is Until Dawn worth playing? Absolutely. It knows exactly what it's trying to be and never strays from that line or even attempts to tiptoe it. It achieves what it set out to do. Each character is given adequate representation in the game so you are always vested in whichever character you're playing as, and every scene in the game is always supporting something else, whether it be atmosphere, tension, or characters. Nothing is wasted or overstays its welcome. Is it worth

$60? For most people, probably not. I say this because from what I understand about the average gamer, most people will only play this once, if they finish it at all.

But if you are interested in seeing how your choices shape the story in different ways, there are at least three total playthroughs you will get out of this: one with every character surviving, one with every character dying, and one with a mix, which will undoubtedly be most people's first playthrough. So if you want to do multiple playthroughs, it's absolutely worth $60. And similar to Heavy Rain, your choices have a dramatic impact on the story.

And another one:

I'm going to mirror these thoughts. Granted I need to finish my first playthrough in order to see how different things can be. That said... they nailed the horror movie vibe. Is it part slasher flick? Part spiritual? Part Saw? Holy shit I don't know. I just know I'm dying to play more and I'm still left wondering, how the fuck am I going to change THAT outcome. Also my wife and I had the biggest fucking jump scare in a long time. You folks with headphones are gonna shit your pants, have an extra pair ready lol

And another:

I got this today! I also got a shirt.

Been playing for about five hours now. Embargo is on me, but let me say that this is the most innovative, in-depth, awesome and scary cinematic survival horror experiece yet. Stupidly great writing and acting. Just wow. Part cheesy, part serious and always cliche in a brilliant way.

I'm betting this a GOTY for many.

And yet another:

Just finished it and... wow.

It's something quite extraordinary. It's like reinventing the wheel and putting it on fire. I'm actually quite speechles. Need to revisit some of the things tomorrow.

LiS and UD are completely different beasts even though both are "cinematic experiences". UD wiped everything clean, this is how you make these games. And I still love LiS.

Sorry for the tease guys. I'm eagerly waiting for Monday to see what other people have to say about it. I can't wait to clear my head on this one.

Yet another:

I was just speaking to someone on my friend list who has the game and finished it a few hours ago. He said the story blew him away. I mean not even I expected the story to be as good as it seems to be!

More impressions from my friend:

* The atmosphere is truly great. It's one of the most atmospheric games he's played in a long time.
* The game will make you jump....a lot!
* The soundtrack is really solid. It sets the mood wonderfully.
* The story is deeper than it looks.
* Choices actually matter. The game does it miles better than Beyond.
* They nailed the balance between cheesiness and seriousness almost perfectly.
* I asked him for a quick score and he told me a solid 9/10.

We had extremely similar reviews from Neogaf about The Order 1886 just a few days before the embargo lift, some of them calling it goty, NeoGaf is really not reliable at all for this things.

An this guy is? These people have actually finished the game too. I'm supprised you're the one to try and discredit the 'good' impressions ...

No, this guy neither, but I´m telling you the truth, with The Order happened the same, people even blatantly lied about the lenght of the game just for damage control, I would wait until the reviews in 2 days or so to have a better picture.

They didn't platently lie about the length of the game, they just enjoyed the game and didn't rush through it. The people who said possitive things about The Order stand by their words and lots of people on GAF and other sites such as this agree it was a great game. No one is saying we should take any notice of previews but I'd take four people who have finished the game (one of which works for a site) over one person who is only one third of the way through it and doesn't understand tongue in cheek. Also, bare in mind that there have been plenty of threads with less than positive impressions of games over at GAF, so it's not something that 'automatically' happens.

I aint doing shit because I agree with you.

People need to stop dogpiling games they have no interest in just because its on another system.

I actually think it looks okay. I'm not a big horror game fan, but if it turns out to be good, and has a decent "Evil Dead" vibe, I'll pick it up at some point.

P.S. I have a feeling this thread is about to get very bad...

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
