Has to be if this is true. If this thing had a disc drive, it would no doubt be a bluray drive.

No, that pretty much proves the rumor is false.

Microsoft should invest at least half of what they did with the X1 controller to see if they find a way to eliminate the hideous Power Brick.
Whats the point of releasing a tiny console if that thing will be hanging from the back of the console?
| JEMC said: What makes me doubt about the X1 mini is the size they claim for that new version. The BR drive doesn't take that much space, and the hard drive and the cooler for the APU (probably still produced at the same 28nm) will still take too much room to make it 2/3 smaller. |
This, a lot of people seem to think you can make a console smaller on a whim. PS4 Slim and XBOne Slim will launch late next year. Possibly not even until 2017

They leave it out because of the heat it produces.

I'm so down.
| shikamaru317 said: Everything here sounds likely except for the XB1 Mini part, and Tom Warren's confirmation of everything except for the XB1 Mini part is telling. I can't see MS releasing a digital only console just yet, the market just isn't ready for it. Besides, we already know that AMD is working on a lower power XB1 chipset, and we know that XB1's current case size is overkill anyway. With AMD's lower power chip MS should be able to release a Slim/Mini console smaller than PS4 with a disc drive, so why drop the disc drive then? MS gets those in bulk for like $10 ea, dropping it saves them very little money, and they have to contend with the downside, which is pissing off companies like GameStop, Gamefly, etc, as well as fears from gamers about the disc drive model eventually being dropped. There's alot of negative to a disc-less console, and not alot of positive right now. |
I think people that assume digital only would flop are pretty ignorant. As long as they continue to offer the full SKU alongside this than there would be no fallout and people like me might consider buying one. Everyone i know at my work, and all my friends outside of work would prefer a digital only console space. It's basically luddites and people that just hate change that argue against it.
I would be willing to buy an XB1 Mini without any media for $150-200 / up to $275 if it included the Kinect 2.0 and a game. If nothing else, I'd get this so that my wife can skype over the TV with her family in Peru.

What the Ps4 designers did is no wizardry, if the managed to do it with a console that is more powerful than the X1 i dont see a problem achieving this feature on the X1.

Sony is simply better hardware designers. That is why they went with such a large design on the XBOne and left the power brick out.

It's just blu-ray playback and disc games...all of the latter are digital, all of the former...well that's what netflix is for.
$250, 1TB drive, full 10 person game sharing as promised. You won't have be always online cuz, you got no disc to sell. Now is the Summer of our Sweet Content. The I-bone.
