Forums - Nintendo - Help with Wii U hard drive compatibility! Will this Hard drive and Y cable work? - Solved!

Question solved! Thanks for replying so quick archer9234!

So I'm looking to buy a Y cable to connect my external hard drive to my Wii U since it has a USB 3.0.

Here's the hard drive I own:

And here's the y cable I want to buy:

What do you guys think? I'm not sure if that Y cable's non USB plug will work connect with my hard drive though. My hard drive uses this sort of plug:

Notice the width difference in the non USB plugs!

Thanks in advance!

That cable won't work. The Y cable is using a USB 2.0 mini cable type. You need to find the proper USB 3.0 mini version.

Thanks! Will this cable work even though one of the USB is 3.0? I ask this because the Wii U only has 2.0 USB ports.

Edit: lol apparently the top 3 reviews says it work for the Wii U. Thanks again for the help anyway!

Yes. It should work with no issue. USB 3 cables normally work on 2.0 or even 1.0 ports.

I was actually wondering the same thing so thanks for making this thread! :)

i i built my own y cable.
i got the HDD usb cable, and other usb cable, opened them, link the wires, and done.

works!

Oh, it won't work! Didn't look at the HDD connection! The one I have let's the USB plug into one and then splits it into two.
