Forums - Gaming - My take on Rise of the Tomb Raider after the Gamescom demo

I just watched the RoTR 13 minutes Gamescom demo and I must say that this game is a more of the (bad) same of the prequel.

- Animations for me are an important part of a game like this and they are very bad, there's no connection between them when she climbs, when Lara is escaping from the collapsing temple it looks like she's jogging and everything felt unnatural and mechanical;

- Lara keeps moaning and talking in an annoying way, and it wouldn't be so bad if the voice acting was decent, but no, it's painful to hear it;

- It seems there's going to be a lot of QTE again, I counted four or five in 13 minutes and there was no need for them, it makes you feel like developers are always holding your hand;

- About holding hands, for being a supposedly open world game it was VERY linear, like there was only one way to get to the temple and it was always the same stuff, climbing onto collapsing things and jump quickly with a cheesy slow motion stunt;

- Discovering the tomb didn't give me no sense of mystery at all, pretty much no exploration, it just looked like a one way roller coaster full of traps;

+ Only good thing was the graphics, nice to look at but competitors did a much better job in my opinion (I'm looking at you Uncharted 4).

So, it's pretty much what I was expecting from this game, a huge blockbuster full of destruction and explosions without a soul like the prequel... How I miss the original Tomb Raiders...

I guess I'll try out the game when it will be 5 euro on Steam.

For the record, this is the link to the demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJQwDnoRueU

Couldn't agree more!  I mean you expect the developer to put its best foot forward - the motorcycle chase in Uncharted 4, All Ghillied up in COD4, and so on.  But what they have chosen to show so far is just generic as all hell!

I was a fan of the original and thought the $10 I payed on Steam was more than worth it, but this I am not sure about.  So far $5 at most.

If I would give the original an 8.4/10...Idk I might give this a 7/10 so far.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

My takes is that it looks better then ever after seeing that last video. Still my pick for GOTY and still a Day 1.

Really?  Over MGS, FO3, and Battlefront?

Is there a thread for what we plan to purchase before the end of the year? My list is:

-Rise of the Tomb Raider
-Metal Gear Solid V
-Gears of War
-WWE 2K16
-Xenoblade Chronicles X
-Devil's Third
-Until Dawn

It's gonna be a great year!

In my opinion, we were way too spoiled with that extended UC4 demo. ND brought the big guns with that, and every time I look at RoTR, it's nearly impossible to not notice the obvious differences that are in Uncharted 4's favor. Plus, it's seems like RoTR is very linear now, and not as open as the last one.

I hope they didn't think the openness was what made it less than uncharted :/
Climbing around in the open arenas to collect things was what kept me going in the game. At least that had a little bit of puzzle platforming.

The tombs and puzzles were better in Uncharted, as well as the sense of discovery and pacing. They need to focus on that. Uncharted was more like TR than TR reboot.

Yes, it has. Actually they are very simple, but they fit quite well in the game narrative and they are somewhat believable.

Yeah, I agree with most of your points, but I enjoyed Tomb Raider so I'll probably like this one even if it is very similar.

Same  could be said about street fighter 5 looks only slightly better than sf4. The fact of the matter is this has sony made this deal it would have been the best thing since sliced bread but since Microsoft did its not that great of a game I don't understand stop being biased

Of course, people didn't like Tomb Raider only because the next game is an Xbox temporary exclusive, but not because of all the points made in this thread. Thanks for the clarification ;)
