Forums - Sony - SONY should have bought SNK instead of Call of Duty DLC, they are losing their insight

Nintendo lacks the money right now. For Sony it makes sense to buy them because the Neo Geo was before the playstation it never tried to compete with Sony

They have almost enough in their warchest to buy out SONY, SNK's 60 millions are small fries for them

The Neo Geo competed with the PS1. Sure, it got released during the previous gen but sales continued throughout the whole following generation as well. There's a reason why games where still made for the system long after the Playstation was released.

Other's have pointed out the utter fallacy of this statement, but just looking at the operating income of both companies, tells you how absolutely absurd that statement is.  You should take a gander at Sony/Nintendo's operating income/profit.  And remember, Sony is a hell of allot bigger than just it's games division (which isn't remotely close to it's biggest money maker).

Looking over that list of IPs there's not much in here with any amount of current day appeal worth mentioning, definitely nothing big.

Seperate your desire of what you want exclusively on PS4, from what would actually make a $60mil acquisition as well as the ongoing cost of upkeeping these studios worthwile and I'd argue that there's really nothing there that would be a reason for Sony to acquire that company.

the fact remains SNK is a former console manufactor and used to dominate the arcade industry. Having such brands like the NeoGeo or SNK in your protofoliou would be a huge boon for Sony long term.

I dont say they should try to make use out of every IP. Just aquire the IPs because its very cheap. They can just release existing SNK games for the PS4, Vita digitally. Just try to restablish one game like Last Blade 3 or a new Fatal Fury

So they should have bought something that no one knows about over something would move systems?

no body knows? SNK is well known in Japan

I agree. Sony should focus on the asian and EU market more because that's their strength.

COD bundles will sell loads. It was a good decision by them and a bad decision by MS to stop paying Activision for the marketing rights.

It won't have much of an impact in the US.

SNK is not popular anymore. Ask the average gamer to name 3 none KoF or MS games. SNK would be awesome but what do they offer SONY cant elsewhere cheaper?

I love SNK but I dont why SONY needs them. If any of the big 3 should bite it should be Nintendo.

KoF XIII is awesome though.

Way better than SFIV, imo.

Sony is a *business* in a highly competitive market. They're in it to win it, long term. They don't want to just beat MS for a year or two, they want to secure dominance over them for the foreseeable future, perhaps drive them out of the console market entirely. That's why they made power plays to strike at Xbox's last strongholds. And like it or not, that's smarter business than investing in a bunch of brands that are only modestly popular in one region.

As others have pointed out, Nintendo would have been a better option. 60mil is nothing for them; they have billions they could spend if they were so inclined. And Nintendo has truly become a 100% exclusive focused brand in most people's eyes so increasing and further diversifying those offerings would make sense. Sony is the epicenter of third party console gaming; all these IP would have to compete with the major third party games that they share genres with (and that Sony has marketing deals for). On Nintendo platforms, there would be no such direct competition and Nintendo would be free to promote them since they obviously don't have marketing deals for third party games that would crowd out these games.

And way better than Tekken 6. KoF XIII also made me realize what a giant piece of s* the 360 gamepad is.

Everything is better than Tekken 6
