That why Nintendo talked so much about merging they handheld and home console teams, same architecture and same platform. Also Wii U is their first HD console, so they had problems with developing first HD games and NX will be probably have much more simple arhitecture (ARM or x86 instead of PPC cpu) than Wii U.

Conjoining two development teams into one big one isn't really a good idea.

How so, they will making one Mario Kart instead one Mario Kart for handheld and one for home console, similar like they managed Smash Bros, and they will have more time for other projects. If its a real hybrid device, there will be no need for different types of games (for home console and handheld).
Also console and handheld market (especially) are smaller than last gen.

Because the 3DS developers will slow them down. They are probably still learning how to do HD games. Hard enough they are moving from SD to HD this late.
|
This gen we had 3DS team that made Mario Kart for 3DS, and we have Wii U team that made Mario Kart for Wii U, next gen we will have probably just one team that will make Mario Kart that is in same time for handheld and home console or just for one hybid device, while onother team will make difrent game.
So for approximately the same time needed to made two difrent type of Mario Kart games, we will have one Mario Kart and onother difrent game.

That would limit the systems though. Look at PS All-Stars.
