This still won't quiet the naysayers...

There's no evidence of a focus on first party when two of your first parties were not given the freedom to work on their new IP's and became a gears/halo factory, and so far apart from forza where have all the first party games been? Not one retail exclusive this year, not one! |
You didn't even look up anything that you just wrote, huh? Because everything you said is not true.
Black Tusk/The Coalition was given a choice on whether they wanted to continue their new IP or take on Gears of War, and they chose Gears of War.
343 Studios was founded in order to continue to work on the Halo series. They were not working on anything prior since they weren't even a studio prior and they were FOUNDED to continue Halo, so they weren't forced to do that either.
Also you apparently seem to have forgotten that at E3 just a month and a half ago that they showed 2 new IP's, ReCore and Sea of Thieves.

It's not really a change in stratgey, MS will still be "buying off" certain games..., the Alan Wakes, The Gears of Wars and Mass Effects of this generation....they are afterall, the biggest games publisher on Earth. it's just now they'll own the IP for those games from the outset. They've been more aggressive in that since 2012. Bout time too. |
Umm... no they're not.
This is pretty interesting, although not suprisingy as the cost of buying 3rd party exclusives is bound to be very expensive for them this gen. Will be interesting to see what new big franchises, if any, their first party studios are able to create over the coming years.

They began investing $1 billion dollars in video games in 2013.
Rethink your sentence again.
Good for Microsoft, very good. That's something Sony did that really helped them climb back into things last generation. They stopped trying to convince 3rd parties of anything, and invested internally with some pretty awesome results. I don't think it will change the landscape dramatically or anything, however, it will create some pretty fantastic content for Xbox and PC gamer's.
People need to Remember that this doesn't mean that Xbox won't have Exclusive AAA games being made by 3rd party studios, what he means is that MS want to own the IP that they fund and don't want deals like TitanFall,RYSE,DR3 etc where they don't have control of the IP (remember that they wanted to make a RYSE sequel but Crytek fought over it).
Scalebound and Quantum Break were all pitched to MS they didn't moneyhat those games like some people like to falsely accuse.

Yes, I said a long time ago that this time would eventually come and it's almost upon us.
The PS5 Exists.

Frankly, I don't want to see either Sony or MS buying exclusives. Its best when both invest in their games instead of keeping games away from their competitor.
The reality is we'll still see 3rd party exclusives because MS, Sony, and Nintendo are going to fund some projects for excluisvity in return. Many projects don't get off the ground unless they can find funding.
Sunset Overdrive could have been multiplat, but Insomniac wouldn't have owned the IP if they went that route. So there are reasons 3rd party may choose to work exclusively with MS.

Unless Sony has enough money fund all projects and willing to work on the terms of all developers... X1 is still gonna get 3rd party exclusives.
Also, there will be games developed by 3rd parties but owned by MS.
