Off topic, but I think this is probably my favorite post of the day.  Someone who believes old wives tales and types "ahaha" after "lmao" challenges the age of someone else.  You can't make up stuff like that.

On topic, this better be something you can schedule in terms of when the updates download.  If not, I'm fine with Windows 7.

Naw I think their initial idea for the Home editions are that you just take the updates as MS sends them out, a major worry when you consider that they recently moved Windows 10 upgrade update into being a critical update so it would download for all users (had previously been available but just by choice to download it seperatly to the critical updates) Would mean that if you are a windows 10 home user you could face a complete change to your OS without any option to not take the update.

I'm sure they'll 180 on it tho, because people who use things like "pay as you go" dongles for mobile broadband need to be able to connect to the Internet for essential things and not worry about windows update downloading gigs of data they don't want.

Also off-topic but I wasn't really sure how to take the post you quoted... I'm pretty sure I'm meant to be offended by it, maybe I will get it later.

I want it to auto-update. Its an annoyance to have to guide the system through updates.

I have low speed DSL.  It's all that is available in my area.  I can't stream and do anything else at the same time.  This is why I keep auto-updates off for everything and close services like Steam when I'm not using them.  If Windows 10 won't allow me to schedule downloads for when I'm not using my PC then I will consider it anti-consumer.  It's that simple.

Auto updates in win 7 can be scheduled for whatever time you like, it doesn't have to happen while you are working. Win7 also only updates once a month not 3 or 4 times a week. (patch tuesday), only time you get extra is ciritical out of band patches which happen once every few months.

Part of my job is around security and patch management for large organisations. I am in a constant battle with people that have the same dated view on patching.  I usually have to dig through their outages reports over the last few years to demonstrate how wrong their views on patching is. It constantly amazes me the amount of IT people that are out of touch with modern practises. Litterally yesterday I had to drag out the outage reports for an issue that has plagued a company for 5 years, affecting thousands of people and all because there IT people advised them it is safer not to update even though their was a known patch for their issue costing hours of downtime for thousands of people every month.

Another large research place I was at last week was in an absolute mess, they could not actually apply the latest security fixes as their systems were so out of date that it wasn't possible to apply it without applying 100's of patches first. It cost them hugely in overtime and downtime. Another one 2 weeks ago with an organisation that hadn't been updating their SAN firmware or switch firmware and we found the cause of their outages for the last 12 months was a bug that was fixed 3 years ago.

Nearly all of the biggest worms and viri on the internet have relied on peole not patching as they exploit old vulnerabilities.

I don't doubt your horror stories and for companies it makes perfect sense to auto update at night.

Yet consider my user experience. I don't leave my desktop on, so scheduling auto updates is of no use. When I start my desktop after a week or 2 to do something, a pack of hungry wolves immediately attack my internet connection, Windows updates, adobe reader, adobe flash, iTunes, Firefox, Java, Virus scanner, etc. Trying to open a folder through all that assault on my hdd is nearly impossible. So screw auto updates.
Again a simple reminder at shut down, a simple would you like to update now, would be perfect. And then it needs to do it all the way, not the next time I start it up to begin with finishing installing updates.

I guess I'll restart now, windows update is threatening me again "Restart your PC, your PC will automatically restart in 1 day if you don't restart now" (That's on my always on laptop where I expect everything that's open to stay open over night) I finished my heavy burgers and am going to jump in the pool now ;) It's still 31c out, pool is 29c, I love summer.

Unless your machine is really old, you can just sleep, your machine will wake for the scheduled update check automatically.

I doubt it can do that as I'm from the generation that turns off the power bar after turning off the pc :p
The idea of stuff turning on by itself and going online is not something I'm a fan of.  I don't let my laptop auto connect to wifi either.

I'll schedule it myself, simple.

First off i was still laughing. My lady asked me whats wrong while typing cause i had tears from his reaction yet you find mine weird? Old wives tales? Do you know why you arent supposed to swimm after you eat? Did you ever look up at the old wives tales? Lol wtf is "old wives tales"? Its a freaking medical advice and not wives tales. Your whole body after eating slows down and over exhausts itself cause its trying ti digest you food. My favorite post of the day is when a minnor is trying to cover another minnor sounding more naive than the previews one. Sure, every athlet, just like I used to, goes running right after eating..

You guys on here deserve nobel prices. Honestly...

You dont let your laptop autoconnect to wifi...? D: You are either paranoid or paranoid dude :p i was gonna say that you either have shitloads of time to kill but even when ppl do so are too lazy for that stuff. Maybe now you gave them a reason to complain for autoconnecting to the wifi! Screw win 10 if thats the case ( jk ).

Dude, I can't even understand you.  What is a "minnor"?  Are you calling me a minnow?  Because that's rude.  What is "nobel prices"?

Please, though, tell me more about the body becoming exhausted after eating.  That's extremely interesting and I would love to hear more.  Please explain in detail, if possible.

Neither the American Academy of Pediatrics nor the American Red Cross offer any recommendations on swimming and eating. There are actully NO medical recommendations on this. It is a "myth" or "wives tale" as already stated.  It was believed you would "cramp" up. Either your legs and arms or even in your stomach. While cramping is always possible, there has never been any cases of drowning from eating and then cramping up. It had nothing to do with your body "slowing" down.   I am guessing you don't work out. YOU ALWAYS should eat before working out. And you know what swimming is.. IT IS A WORK OUT.. Carb and protein HELP fuel your body so that it can take strenuous activity.

So yeah.. you are wrong on sooo many levels..

Also I think you meant NOBEL PEACE PRIZE..    Funny you pick on people for being WRONG.. with a paragraph full of "WRONGNESS"..

http://health.howstuffworks.com/mental-health/human-nature/health-myths/swimming-after-eating.htm

from page 2 of that "The truth is that we have enough blood to keep all of our other parts running just fine after a meal. In fact, some competitive swimmers eat something immediately before a big meet to give them the energy they need to perform well."

As Pokoko said tho, I would love to know what a "nobel price" is and would certainly love one. It sort of looks like your post was put through google translate a few times before being added here, sorry if that is how you have to post here, just rather difficult to read.
