Forums - Gaming - China To Lift Ban On Sale Of Video Game Consoles (Part 2?)

I read that title and like you I thought 'WTF?' Then I read the text and according to THAT text consoles weren't actually allowed to be sold throughout China. IS this true or is this site terrible? I can see their information on XB1 sales is wrong and they don't even mention Sony launching there at all.

China has decided to lift its ban on the sale of video game consoles, according to a new article on the Washington Post.

China will lift a ban on making and selling videogame consoles in the country, paving the way for foreign companies like Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp. to expand in one of the world’s largest videogame markets.

Some may remember that the video game console ban was actually lifted previously in Shanghai. In fact, more than 100,000 Xbox One consoles have been sold in the city. This new change will ensure that consoles can be sold all across China, not just in Shanghai.

Do you think that Nintendo should think about entering the Chinese market, or are there other priorities that Nintendo should focus on? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Yeah, that's what I thought. Perhaps this is why the initial shipments were so low? Is it also perhaps why Sony are having a conference in China? To launch China wide?

I beliiiieve it was just Shanghai, Free Trade Zone or something like that; at the very least, pretty sure there were restrictions upon where it could be sold.

I thought that it was for the whole country before. Hmmm. That's good news because that means sales could really take off there. Then again it could take til next gen for that happen. Nintendo might want to seriously consider bringing at least one of their devices there.
