Teeqoz said: With the arguments you are using, you should remove the "PS4" part in the title, because it applies to every remaster out there. Remastering refers to enhancing the quality of sound and/or picture of a video game. In a PC game, it isn't enhanced, it all has the same quality available, you just choose the settings to fit your rig. But if you'd like, you can call late PC ports "remasters". You could also call them "demasters" if you have a crappy computer. Call them what you want. |
Agreed, and i don't really understand why there's a debate about something we have a clear definition for. You can make arguments about what's a good or bad remaster, but not what the word itself entails. Was it released after the original, and is it inherently visually superior to the original (e.g. improved assets/frame-rate/resolution)? If the answer to both of those is yes then congratulations, you've made a remaster.
Something like the PC version of GTA5 can certainly be regarded as a remaster too, but since PC gaming lacks the static hardware of console gens, it's simultaneously a demaster. Regarding it as both would be a bit silly (and overly complex), so we tend to simply refer to it as "the PC version", which carries the "can be better, can be worse" tag. Just because we don't explicitly refer to something as [x], doesn't mean [y] can't imply something similar in the right context.
