The majority of ppl who want to play GoW want it to play like how a GoW game currently plays. If they decide to go wide-linear like UC4 then that is perfectly fine. GoW4 should not give up its streamlining of action and combat scenarios just to jump onto the open-world bandwagon. Just an incredible waste of money on resources that the game just does not require to work as it does. Besides, I doubt most ppl playing GoW care for it to be open-world... time investment in one asepct in which GoW is perfect the way it is. First time run about 10 - 15 hrs, and then you can speed run (even on higher difficulties).
GoW is not suffering from a linearty problem beause its the 3D representation of the original 2D side beat em up genre. Enemes, next area, more enemies with simpled and defined control scheme. GoW works because of its more linear structure. It allows action and puzzles to flow in a structred manner that the devs can control. And this is why I think open-world is just a bad idea GoW works because of how defined each scenario in the game is: thats just going to be lost in the transition, likewise the push for graphical fidelity to do the sort of things the GoW devs do in the games themselves.
Im yet to see any reasons why open-world would actualy benefit the GoW structure.

I think you are not considering that an open world game can go to a streamline level design while still offering room for opened sections.
Take a game like Borderlands for example, where you have this little sections to explore within opened maps that feel like tight areas within bigger opened areas. Those areas sometimes even lead to enclosed rooms and areas where you have that corridor shooting experience.
God of War is about moving forward and getting into a point and some impressive event taking place once you reach that certain point. Santa Monica can make that happen even in an open world game.
Santa Monica could come up with an open world GOW and say: "this is next gen" by offering us those incredible set pieces and cinematic moments within a free world where we can experience what is happening around you. Like when Kratos goes to that city looking for Ares in GOW1, imagine being able to go to different parts of the city and see what is happening there, do optional fights, make side-quests that appear in the moment (perhaps signaled by cut-scenes, no need even for dialogue options, like a video of someone being pursued by monsters and you can decide whether to save him or not), and even optional fights for hidden bosses.
You don't like that? Perfect. I would love to see GOW go that way. That is what this thread is about, saying what you would like to see in the next GOW.
