See what I mean by no win scenario? If Nintendo puts any serious backing behind this they'll be bombarded for spending resources on this instead of [insert desired game here]. If they don't people will say they aren't supporting the game or console fully. If they don't publish it, they'll really get blasted.

Oh and I think this supports my theory: they backed Itagaki and his reputation, probably gave him almost complete autonomy. And then he screwed the pooch and Nintendo didn't see it coming til it was too late. Modest budget or not, your game should at least be competent. Poor bet on Nintendo's part, but poor form on the devs too.

You got this plus you had the 3 sanic games deal with Sega and its like they spent money for virtually nothing and all that did is damage Nintendo's library. At least with Bayonetta 2, it got a high review score but the rest of their deals with third parties (apart from HW) were eh for wiiU

I would have personally traded the 3 sanic games and devil's third for shenmue 3 anyday of the week

Looks like Tamaki/Unseen 64 was right, I guess NOA maybe changed their minds afterwards because of the backlash they were getting from fans on the internet.

"Sonic is a well-known character and here we have chance to get some Sonic exclusives for our struggling platform. What could possibly go wrong?"

In the case of Devil's Third I suppose Nintendo was really desperate for some exclusives and hoped that the game would be a critical hit like Bayonetta 2.

Let's hope that Nintendo won't lose faith in 3rd party collaborations because of these mishaps.
