i would get them what would make them unhappy on purpose so they learn the value of having something when others have nothing.

You're supposed to get them exactly what they want, then wait for the opportune moment when you catch them mocking those with less...

...and then smash the console to pieces in front of their very eyes.

hmm i like that idea too haha.

They'll only be upset if the kids have been asking for a PS4 or XB1 for awhile. That would be a dick move of a parent.

If they never asked for any or didn't mind any then I'm sure they'll be fine with it.

If so I will slap him in the face

I actually just bought a Wii U for my 4 year old and I. Pretty darned fun system and great for the kids. Best part is if I am using the xbone on the TV my son can play on the control pad without needing the TV.

My son was far from disappointed :)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that most people that get a WiiU will be pleasantly surprised. It's a great console.

Buy them a PS4. Lots of kids on there chatting and blowing up big monsterZ in various games, and talking. They will be very happy with that system, and they can win arguments with friends about which system is better because they own it. LOL.

Instead of a PS4 or X1.

Before you rich people coming in saying you'll just buy them each system.....

Lets say just say you only buy them one console a year so they would miss out on everything the other two had to offer from last year and this year and next year until they get the new system.

edit....and no return option :)

If the Kids are under 10 years old .... it's actually kinda dumb to buy them a PS4 or X1.

Edit: If they're over 10 years old ... they would of told a million times which console they actually want and the WiiU isn't that good a bargain to cheap out and go WiiU.

I have no children, but I know my nephew recently started asking his Mom about a PS4 or PC that can play games. Wii U isn't even on his 10 year old radar so I would imagine he'd feel like I wasn't listening to what he wanted. Any explanation that he should be happy with what ever he gets would ring a little hollow because not what he asked for.

I think too often as we grow up we become convinced that our likes are "right" so our younger relatives or children should embrace them. Then I remember my Dad never even cared about video games and preferred hunting/fishing/golfing as hobbies and while he encouraged them on me he bought me a Super Nintendo for Christmas instead of a rod and reel or 3 wood like he would have preferred.

Comic I think touches on this.

I love this comic. Only because I've seen it happen.

My kids are 18 and 16, so yeah, they would be unhappy. Though no doubt there would be several games they would enjoy, just not as much as as games they like on PS4.

They should probably buy their own consoles at that age.

They put in 1/3 each for the PS4, so they kind of did. I would have bought a Wii U if Sony had tried to go the DRM route MS tried with the Xb one.

On the flip side, if I was into one type of console and my kids were pestering me for another kind, with my money I'd be buying the console I want. As a one console (plus PC of course) per generation house that's all the money I would spend on console hardware, so if the kids had wanted a different console they would have to save up and buy with their own money.
