Oh? It was my understanding that the old Japanese preview numbers were based on a couple stores in Japan that VGC got numbers from directly and earlier than others, and then as more stores' information came in the final numbers were made. You're saying that all Brett does is average MC and Famitsu and therefore theSource was completely making up every single Japan preview article from absolutely nohing since Famitsu and MC weren't posted at that point in the week. Might be true, but I'd like to know why you're so certain of your statement.

I'm sure Brett has access to some Media Create leakers as some of his older numbers do align with exact Media Create totals that haven't been released to the public. However he does like to inflate Japanese numbers a bit too much sometimes and some games are overtracked. A good example I can probably give is Dynasty Warriors 7: Empires for PS3 in Japan which is overtracked by about 20k or Senran Kagura Burst which is overtracked by about 40k.
Going back to Japan preview in 2009 and 2010 he could have been using leakers for this or a combination of early reports/leaks and pre order figures which are very easy to find on any Japanese gaming forum. It's something that isn't hard to predict given the number of resources available to track the Japanese market.
For Japanese sales at the moment though it's fairly obvious that Brett uses MC and Famtisu numbers (and Dengeki) where he can and then extrapolates the rest. The Japanese sales he has on this website are very accurate but as above there are some games where he extrapolates a bit too much.
Great news indeed! This does good things for the site indeed!
