So this is how Gundam starts. Things are only going to get more imteresting from here.

By interesting, I mean scary.

Mech combat sports... its happending guys!

Once you start throwing real world combat engineering considerations into the mix, you stop building toys and construction vehicles and start designing and building lethal war machines.

Considerations like programmed autonomous drones or RC human operated machines. Then the software and code becomes the key link in how a mech reacts to threats and responds with accurate, fast, lethal force.

Defensive systems now come into consideration for survivability; you're now dealing with real world armor and active defense systems (electronic systems to jam missile lock or mask heat signatures).

High speed mobility comes into play as well, making a compromise between weight from armor and armament versus speed and maneuverability.

This is the point at which such contests become really interesting.

There's no reason for giant anthropomorphic or bipedal walking combat robots/drones yet other than as a design preference (you really like or liked giant bipedal robot shows as a kid); they're not terribly efficient for mobility nor maneuverability and defensive purposes.

Oh, so Megabots is based in Boston. That's significant for two reasons.

1. They're not that far from me, which is cool.

2. It means they have some very robin-Davy neighbors, who I think they should ask for assistance.

I want to see this so bad!!!

I, for one, welcome the Second Impact.

I hope this becomes an official sport. I want to see more of this.

Dang had to go and challenge Japan of all countries to a giant robot fight? We couldn't have started with Ecuador or something?

To the Japanese guy who responded, I seem to recall most giant robots from japanese culture (Big O, Gundam Wing) being pretty much nothing more than giant suits with guns lol

...and thus begins the arms race that will ultimately put us under the yoke of robot overlords. I wonder if China will want to get into this? Clearly this is some excuse for the japanese and U.S. to war game new military tech on their doorstep :D
