Forums - Gaming - What If The 3D Zelda's Had Roc's Cape?

If you don't know, Roc's Cape is an item in some of the 2D Zelda games that gives Link the ability to jimp. What if it was in Ocarina of Time and every other 3D Zelda, instead of the only ways to jump being running off a ledge and using the Jump and Parry attacks?

How different  do you think the Gameplay would be? I don't think it wouldn't be fitting for the 3D Zelda games as they are now to have jumping, but they could have easily designed some of the overworld puzzle things, and dungeons, to where jumping would be fitting from a gameplay-standpoint. Plus, if it actually happened, it wouldn't be weird to us.

Can't wait for The Zelder Scrolls 3: Breath of The Wild Hunt!

It could work well, I mean they did figure out a way to make Space Jump and the Screw Attack work on a 3D Metroid so why not the Roc Cape.

I do see it eventually being an item, not sure when though. You'd still need your hookshot to reach high areas of course but it would be interesting to use it for battle and just clearing small areas.

As long as it is implemented well, I'm okay

Zelda is not a platformer. The Ocarina jumping system really makes it feel like Zelda and not like Mario.

I think even if it were implented, it wouldn't feel like Mario. Zelda has a whole world to explore, dungeons, story, etc. which Mario only has in Paper Mario (which still doesn't feel like Zelda).

The auto-jump already let's you jump to and climb up platforms so the cape wouldn't add much, unless they take away auto-jump but that sounds all kinds of terrible.

Platform too high to reach with Auto Climb = Manual jump + Auto climb.

Something like that.

That would work, but Nintendo would have to add a lot of platforming segments to justify the item. And we already have the (dual) hookshot to get to places we can't reach by jumping.

Honestly, I think the auto jump in 3D Zelda would make Roc's Cape rather pointless, unless they change it's ability, like giving Link a double jump or something, I dunno.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
