Why should third party's put so much effort into the Wii U version? And given the small install base on the Wii U, that doesn't even buy third party games, it wouldn't make financial sense to do that.
| Kuksenkov said: I bet most Wii U owners would jump in to buy a Japanese third party game, instead of a Western one. MH3 = Best selling third party game besides Hyrule Warriors (come on) and Zombi U's unprofitable ass. I wouldn't blame them though, I'd rather go for a nice Tekken port instead of a broken Splinter Cell. |
I would wager Koei Tecmo, Namco Bandai, and Sega are the publishers on task for the unannounced '3rd party partnerships' .
I think at least a few are 1st party IP crossovers like Hyrule Warriors, but there are probably other IPs that fit the WiiU's unique capabilities.
You should look at the thread I made about it! http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=205224&page=1#
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

The small installed hardware base is almsot as big as the installed hw base of xbox one at the moment.
Wii U Owners do buy third party games. Just not realisitc looking games.

Disney infinity 2.0 sales:
Wii U: 0,47 Mio
Ps4: 0,39 Mio

WiiU: 0,5 Mio
Ps4: 0,3 Mio
Xbone: 0,23 Mio

That's true, but they aren't making special versions for the X1. Plus the X1 is selling much better than the Wii U.
And what you prove is that only games for kids sell okay on the Wii U. I think most third party's know this and act accordingly. For example, I think Ubisoft's next Rayman game will probably be on the Wii U. But of course they aren't going to spend millions changing Assassin's Creed so that kids can play it. That just doesn't make financial sense.
The only way this is even remotely feasible is if nintendo covers most of the porting costs, if not footing the bill outright for such special treatment.

The wii u got a special version of any of those games?
Wouldnt be to sure about that. Cartoony AAA titles are doing very good on wii u. Games like Mario kart 8, Mario 3d Wörld and co get played (mainly) by kids. I think its like 50% kids/50% nintendo fans. Thats still like 1-3 mio kids playing AAA cartoony games on wii u.
Assassins Creed Unity sold 2,7 Mio on xbox one and 0,4mio on PC. A cartoony version that sells like 1,5-2 Mio on Wii U should be very profitable in my opinion. Keep in mind that Assassins Creed games still sold like 0,3mio on Wii U as normal ports. That copies are pretty sure bought by adults who would buy a cartoony version too. So something around 2 mio shouldnt be to unrealistic with some marketing.
Also its not tooo hard. If you read my first topic, even hobby modder are doing cell shading texture packs. Also cell shading textures are very simple (thats why they are not very demanding) and easy to made. Much easier then a realistic looking texture.
I still believe it would do well.

well i dont think it will happen anytime soon. If third party developer think it would work and be it worth they would already had done it. Like somebody already mentioned fifa did something like this for wii (and it had at least some sucsess, even if it was amde poorly). They do know that. I think it would be sucsessfull. Not only because of the money they might earn on wii u but also with bringing kids into your franchises so they will buy your games in realistic look when they are older. But third party publisher dont think its worth, so it probl wont happen.

I agree with you that cartoony games sell well on the Wii U. But why should companies spend so much money and put so much effort to make games look more child friendly? It just doesn't make sense.
And I highly doubt it would sell 2m. Even Nintnedo's exclusives which got a decent amount of marketing and were aimed at kids just reach 1m. So I highly doubt a cartoony Assassin's Creed would sell more than 250k.

250k? Thats alot off from anythign realistic. Even Disney infinity and Skylander are selling 500k.
Even Assassins Creed in realistic sells 250k Thats a very unrealistic estimation.
Did you even read my first topic?
I count all advantages. More sales, reach new groups of gamer, make people used to your franchises so they buy the realistic looking ones if they get older and more. Just check it.
I also explained that its not to hard to retexture a game. Cell shaded graphics arent that hard to make. Many third party cartoony looking games are selling like 1mio copies on all 3 systems. And these games are profitable even with makin the whole game AND using cell shading textures.
I see no way a AAA-title in cartoony graphics sell less then a mill on wii u with some marketing. Thats already more then other cartoony non aaa titles sell at all.
Which nintendo AAA titles just sell 1m?
Mario Kart 5,5mio
Nintendoland 4,5mio
3d Wörld: 3,2 Mio
Windwaker 1,4 Mio (just a port)
And Splatoon already cross 1m and will likely sell 2-3mio lifetime.
Thats pretty much all nintendo aaa title on wii u.
Also kids dont care if a game is made by Nintendo, Ubisoft, EA or whatever. Good AAA title with marketing will sell same as Nintendos big titles.
1-2mio for an cartoony assassins creed is very very likely.
Just a comparison for wii. it doesnt even fit realyl good scince the wii was owned by many different people (casuals, gamers, old people, kids, teenagers, girls, etc). Wii U is mostly owned by kids and nintendo fans.
Star wars lego: 5,5 Mio sold units
Star wars forces unleash: 1,8 mio sold units
Thats already 3x as many copies for the cartoony star wars game compared to the realistic looking one.
If you also keep the different situation for wii u in mind, 4-5x as many sales for cartoony AAA games are very realistic.
0,3mio ac4 sales = 1-1,5mio sold units.
