Forums - Nintendo - What does Nintendo need to establish a good subscription system?

Yes, in the past Nintendo has given away numerous games for free. But in the end it was always about motivating people to buy more software. Attractive hardware bundle = higher hardware sales = higher software sales down the line. Free eShop game = more people who visit the eShop = higher chance to sell digital software.

On the other hand, a paid subscription service is more likely to have the opposite effect. People could play only the "free" games and forego buying software.

I agree with all that and I think that will be the exact focus of the new membership service. I think the service will center around rewarding people who buy games digitally with free content or discounts. Like the SMTxFE thing where you got $30 of eshop credit when you bought SMT4 and FE:A. Or the Wii U's DDP giving $5 for every $50 spent on the eshop. I think the new program will reward players in ways like that.

I was just saying.
