Forums - Sony - Sony: 'PS Vita is not dead, there are hundreds of games coming'

He actually said that? Really?

He just admitted that no AAA titles (or at least practically none) are in development for the Vita, including by Sony themselves.

30k is still respectable numbers and they arent investing any money into first party games

You say that like it's a good thing. It's why I'll never buy another Sony handheld ever again, assuming there even is one.

Not being willing to invest in development for your own platform isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.

To be fair, whatever chances the Vita may have had were shot down when the PS4 launched as a raging success. Sony just said screw the Vita and went into full PS4 mode. Totally burning early Vita adopters, of course. I mean, it makes sense money wise, but it was a terrible move in terms of retaining customers.

As for Aielyn's comment: They confirmed this over a year ago. I mean, they flat out said that they weren't planning any future AAA releases for the Vita. At least they were honest about it, but it was certainly a little disappointing seeing as I bought a Vita around the beginning of last year, played some great AAA games, only to be told some months later that they weren't going to even pretend to try anymore.

Sony is completely at fault for the vita's situation , no one to blame but themselves. Memory cards are over priced alot, the games are sometimes over priced, the mindset to not have their best 1st party studios develope games for it and then the lack of advertising for the system or its games. I love my vita but its going to be remembered as being a system with great potential that never lived up to what it could have done, because sony never truly invested with the system. When u say to the world that the vita is considered a assessory for the ps4, and not considering it as a system with its own idenity , then yes u killed your own device.....

PSP had as much expensive memory card and the price of Vita games are the same as PSP and people said PSP advertising was bad too but PSP sold well and Vita solde bad.

But PSP had good 3rd party support and Vita not

The Vita has been living on nothing but third party support for about two years now. It's pretty good third party support too. Quality indie titles, but most importantly, Japanese developed games. There's a lot of good third party stuff here already, and still a fair bit more coming. And I do mean localized coming. Granted, it might not seem like "good" third party support if you aren't a fan of Japanese game styles, but at the same time, it's not fair to write off a quality game just because it isn't your type of game.

quality don't always mean better sales and i never talked about quality in my comment

Indie will never boost consoles and most Japanese games are late port or niche games they will never boost any consoles either and western support is catastrophic home consoles are getting games nearly every week and then third party wonder why handheld are doing bad this generations.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Talking about a failed console in terms of sales seems silly to me. I mean, the Vita has already failed. It's not going to fail anymore past losing all first party support. Whether the games sell well and push consoles or not is a moot point. Clearly they're still selling well enough for more games to keep coming, and that's all that matters. What's important as a Vita owner is sustaining the current Vita owners, not necessarily attracting new ones.

Since when are hanheld games AAA? and nintendos 3DS games are certainly not AAA either. Tough the vita is getting revelations 2 which looks amazing.

No i say its a good thing for sony and quite impressive for the vita in itself.

And yes the vita gets still games in fact its equal to the 3DS by now, only difference is they arent from sony. So the sales and amount of games this system is getting are quite impressive. Imagine if nintendo would openly announce to stop making first party wiiu games tomorow, no one would buy this system or devolope games for it. We allready saw the outrage from the e3 despite new wiiu games were announced by nintendo.

But the vita is very good designed both in hardware and ecosystem that it still gets third party support and is selling units despite no first party support.

of course its not dead... for japan

Well yeah.

The vita got more interesting games than the 3ds since the beginning of 2014 for me, and it's not over yet, it will be the same for 2016 when i see 3ds planning.

Well, not a big problem if they don't do first party games anymroe on vtia, they already did quite a bunch of titles, now they prefer to focus on ps4.

Made me think of this gif:

The Vita has been dead for a while.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Soooooooooooooooo we have the VITA getting hundreds of games, compared to the 3DS, but it is still selling so LOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!

Quality > Quantity
