Forums - Sony - Price Cut in The Love Capital: An opinion that is OnlyForDisplay

Hello fellow members of VGChartz. Today, I will be offering my personal opinion on why Sony should give the PS4 a price cut at the Paris Game Show. With that out of the way, here are my two reasons. They are as follows:

1.) Games: The Last Guardian, Final Fantash VII remake, and Shenmue III were all more than enough to get many gaming fans excited. However, games like Horizon and FireWatch were also good. However, this wasn't all what Sony had to offer. The common criticism of this E3 for Sony was that there were not enough games showcased that would come out this year as exclusive. Hellblade, H-Hour: World Elite, Red Goddess: Inner World, Amplitude, Persona 5, Disgaea 5, Dragon Quest Heroes, Until Dawn, Volume, Collectums, Tearaway: Unfolded, Moon Hunters, Risen 3: Titan Lords, The Tomorrow Children, Everybody's Gone To The Rapture and countless others willnmost likely be at the Paris Game Show (games like Persona and Disgaea Tokyo Game Show in all likelihood). Sony is devoid of big smash hits like Halo or Gears, but if we include the God of War 3 Remaster, The Nathan Drake Collection, and the EA/Activision two piece exclusive deals, then Sony isn't as weak coming this holiday. With that out of the way, this will conclude to my final and most important point.

1.) Momentum: Rolling off of a successful E3, logic dictates that a company should continue such positive strides. That being said, Sony should continue to garner excitement and anticipation for the Paris Game Show. Furthermore, of the three biggest conferences Sony does go to, it usually is E3 that is the least exciting; Gamescom (this year Paris Game Show) and Tokyo Game Show being the main stars. If you recall my previous point, Sony actually is stacked in terms of exclusives for these two events. That being said, Sony will have even stronger momentum going forward. With a pricecut, this momentum will be crucial as they will have to deal with not only Halo 5: Guardians, but Forza 6, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and their partnership with Bethesda in the form of Fallout 4; a surefire GOTY contender at that.

Well fellow members, that concludes my two reasons. What are your main reasons as why Sony should cut the current price of the PS4? Do you think they even should cut the PS4 price at all this year? Once again, this is in opinion.... but it is an opinion that is;

They should forecast demand at the current price against demand at the lower price and choose the option that generates the most profit.

I don't think Sony is going to announce the price cut at any major event -- if they do, they are going to make it effective within a week of announcement. The problem is, if they announce a price drop too far out -- sales will plummet off a cliff (look at XB1 Kinectless sku).

I guess at least they could announce the same BS PR Microsoft did and say their sales tripled .

True. At the same token though, considering that Sony is riding hot off of a stellar E3, at the very least a price cut should be either hinted or announced at some point this year. Europe is arguably Sony's strongest region historically. That, coupled with many euro devs. like Guerilla Games and Media Molecule likely to make their appearance, along with indie games like Hellblade, it isn't entirely out of the question.

Are you saying a price cut is a reward for selling well in a particular region??

No good sir. What I am stating is that since that Sony usually does better at either Gamescom (Paris Game Show) or Tokyo Game Show, it would be beneficial to them to announce a price cut there. Many of the exclusives are coming to both events. That being said, this can give Sony some much needed momentum heading into the brutal months of October, November, and December.
