Forums - Nintendo - Would people buy a Wii U in 2016 for Zelda and Pokken fighters, if they know in 2017 a new console is coming?

I would buy one now at $199 if I didn't already own one. More for the backlog than for a few new games (of course, "Zelda" wouldn't hurt matters). $299 is way too much for a console that Nintendo is dropping by 2017 at the latest.

I think this E3 was Nintendo's way of trying not to scare too many Wii U buyers away until the NX comes out. Sadly, they're doing the opposite. Every time I heard the word NX at the show, I was thinking, "I thought we were talking about this year?" All of the NX talk just drove home the point that the Wii U (and thus Nintendo fans) is/are about to see a big game drought...

Probably... Nintendo isn't gonna announce a new console in 2016 that will release in 2017 if they are going to release Zelda U in 2016 for the wiiU... That would hurt the sales with virtually zero positive affects so no one will really know for sure that a new console will release in 2017 other than pure speculation and rumours

That isn't true at all. What? Of course it will sell. It would sell to early adopters on the NX and people like you on the Wii U. In 2016. When the NX will launch. Because the Wii U is over now.

I was talking about the wiiU version...

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

some would.

and I would be grateful that NX Home would release in 2017 instead of 2016....

Depends on whether or not the new console has backwards compatibility. If not, then yes they will buy it because the Wii U has an excellent backlog of games. If the next console has BC, then probably not. People don't buy consoles for a single game.

It 100% will have BC. That's the whole point of a unified platform and absorbing the Wii U architecture. It's why Nintendo is adding VC support to a dead console. So that the NX launches with a rubust library of legacy games.

Wait, nope. That was my fault. I read that as "probably not." Oops. :x

There will be so much buyers remorse running rampant next year. So. Much.

That's already solved: NX is coming holiday 2016.

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

NX will only have it own mario kart, zelda, smash, mario 3d, xenoblade, etc in 2020.
meanwhile, wii U worths more than NX because it have all these games.

Unless there is retrocompatibility.

Why not, especially if next home console don't have backward compatible. Wii U will be cheaper than next home console and some people cant wait whole year to play new Zelda.
