Forums - Sony - Logitech Harmony Remotes & App Add PS4 Support

Rejoice, PlayStation 4 owners, as our powerful console gets one step closer to being the ultimate media hub once again like the PS3. Logitech, the company behind the famous universal Harmony remotes, has announced support for the PS4 via their remotes and apps.

Details after the jump.

Logitech has revealed that their most recent software update will allow you to control PS4 via their Harmony hub-based remotes. Thanks to the hub’s ability to connect to your WiFi, the remote’s functionality is also extended to their free app which is available on iOS and Android.

According to Logitech, once updated, the Harmony remote or app can

control Blu-Ray movies and streaming apps including Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video, and more.

And when allowed, you can even use the Harmony mobile app for text input in the PlayStation 4 web browser and certain apps. The only caveat from this is that, due to Sony’s restrictions on which devices can actually power the PS4 (read, only the Dualshock 4 controller), you cannot currently have Harmony remotes turn on PS4.

This also means that if you create scenes which turn on your TV, speakers, and other related devices, that you must still manually boot up PS4 via the physical button on the console or the Dualshock 4 controller. Interestingly enough, Sony does allow for other devices to turn off PS4, meaning that via a Harmony remote or their app, you can turn off the console.

The PS5 Exists.

Around the Network

About time! I have this exact remote. It is a pretty awesome remote, you can buy them at Costco for $99. They control everything.
This remote controls my TV, Cable box, HTPC (I installed a universal IR device and it turns it on and off like a regular device.), Surround Sound, XB1, and now finally the PS4. I prefer the remote over controllers when using video apps.

This remote is so sweet turns on devices, and switches inputs automatically with one push on the touchscreen after you program it.

I actually requested PS4 support for it numerous times on the Logitech website questionnaires. good to see that they listen.

This thing can also control the PS3, and Xbox 360.
